Olivia + Steve | Intimate Wedding at Breckenridge
‘I promise to keep our lives adventurous... But not *too* adventurous... So I also promise to never take you parasailing, ever again.’ Olivia + Steve shared several heartfelt vows with each other this August afternoon, but Steve’s parasailing promise to Olivia was perhaps my favorite. And all of their close family in attendance responded with knowing laughter.
Olivia + Steve are such wonderful complements to each other. Steve brings adventure and humor, Olivia brings tenderness and thoughtfulness. After only spending a few hours with them, I could totally tell why they *just work.* And within their complementary dynamic, one of the things that they resoundingly agree upon is the importance of family.
Family was at the center of their wedding weekend. They rented a gorgeous lodge in Breckenridge for their loved ones to stay at all together. Olivia’s brother officiated their ceremony. Steve’s mom called off names for family photos. Their neices were flower girls, their nephews were ring bearers. And everyone pitched in to help make this day as special as it was.
Like many 2020 couples, Olivia + Steve opted for a small, intimate gathering this year and are planning on hosting a larger celebration next year for their friends to attend as well. Their film will screen at their 2021 reception, to give everyone who wasn't able to attend an emotional connection to their OG wedding day. It's a ways off, but I'm already excited for them to screen it =)
These are some wild times we're in; it's August, and this was my first wedding of 2020 (?!) It was the perfect 'return' so to speak - cozy and grounding - and reminded me just how much I love (and missed) this job of mine.
Wishing these two a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and the occasional extreme sport (hard caveat on parasailing).

when I first sat down with maddie + william to chat about their wedding day plans, i knew it was going to be an insanely fun happening… reasons being: 1) maddie + william themselves are so fun + full of life - it’s hard to imagine that their wedding celebrations be anything less. 2) maddie herself is a stellar wedding planner + even though we were meeting 9 months before their wedding date, maddie already had an hour-by-hour schedule of the day. i was surprised at the time, but by now I know this is hardly out of her character - she must certainly be in the top 5% of organized humans. 3) their wedding was going to be vintage hollywood themed, complete with a stunning historic venue + red carpet.
this is pretty much how it went down (à la hollywood):

mid-november chill. a mysterious yet beautiful FOG shrouds the city skyline.
> INT. WOMEN’S CLUB OF MINNEAPOLIS - day
maddie + her ladies get ready. Lots of SPARKLE + glam. down the hall, william + his gents prep. william shows off his pedicured TOES.
> EXT. DECK -day
william gazes over the city. this is the ‘first look.’ maddie descends the STAIRCASE behind him, looking radiant as ever. as she approaches william, his heart rate increases. the anticipation in the air is palatable. he turns. he smiles. she smiles. they literally don’t stop smiling the rest of the day.
CUT TO
> INT. VINTAGE THEATER - dusk
guests arrive to the ceremony dressed in vintage hollywood style. they’re greeted by witty ’maddie + william’ movie POSTERS.
william stands onstage under spotlight, awaiting his lovely bride.
CUE music. maddie has arrived.
maddie + william (+ their witnesses) sign their MARRIAGE CONTRACT to the james bond theme song.
