Enjoy this remake of a very old song called 'Baju Shanghai' referring to Nyonyas who wore the cheongsum or qipao during the height of its fashion. It was recorded by a Malay female singer Rokiah in 1951. This version is sung by Baba Alvin Oon featuring classic poster images of women in cheongsum juxtaposed by modern AI-created versions.

Peranakan Sayang will be broadcasting 'live' 'Virtually Peranakan Fest 2024' on the weekend afternoons of 7 & 8 Dec 2024 (SG time). This will be the 5th edition of our successful annual online Peranakan festival that started during the pandemic to connect with Peranakans in the region and around the world, celebrating our culture, garnering over 10,000 viewers each festive weekend! It will be free-to-view on our FB page and YouTube channel!

We are still in the midst of organising the programs. If you, or you know someone, have something to share online about a topic related to our culture, please contact us! We would love to hear from you and consider your presentation proposal.

'Manek Sulamkan Si-Ayer Mata' a unity-themed play based on family ties, struggle and love presented by Melaka Tourism Association.

It is with sadness to share the passing of one of Singapore's Peranakan icons, Baba William Gwee Thian Hock, who passed away this afternoon at the grand age of 90. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge of the Baba Nyonya culture who was also an author, song composer and advisor to many organisations and cultural enthusiasts, including Peranakan Sayang. He will always be remembered for all his contributions and achievements.
He leaves behind his wife, 2 sons and 2 grandchildren.
May he rest in peace. 🙏🏼

Our main cast at last week's 'Proudly Peranakan - The Great Baba Nyonya Celebration!' We had a wonderful time performing on 30 & 31 August '24 to a great audience at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, MPH!

Despite being from different cities, we managed to coordinate, rehearse and finally came together on show day to perform as a team and gave our best.

It was a great reunion of friends who share the same passion for performing and celebrating the Peranakan culture, sharing the joy with the community and we had a great party!

This is the 2nd year running that we have performed together; we staged 'Proudly Peranakan - Celebrating the Baba Nyonya culture' last year at Singapore Chinese Girls School auditorium.

It was during the dark days of the pandemic that we sparked the idea of performing 'live' together and bring the community together when the opportunity arose and it is wonderful that we have notched 2 annual shows to date.

It is a big undertaking and effort to stage these shows. The concept, scripting, designing, appeals for funding, finding a venue, meetings, license applications, music, videos, staging, technicals, rehearsals, show promotion, ticketing and so much more and we did it with everyone's effort. To do all these in just 3 months is just unbelievable!

We wanted our guests to have a happy experience from the moment they clicked the 'ticket booking' link till they left the MPH after the show with happy memories. We hope we brought joy and celebration to your hearts.

We are so ever grateful for the SCCC venue partnership, our donors, supporters, crew and volunteers and of course our dancers and main cast. It is when we all come together can we do something wonderful and we did do something wonderful last week!

Kamsiah everyone for your support for Peranakan Sayang. We can only do this with your continued support as we keep our culture alive and kicking!
