Last retreat of the year at the MP. Turning Points writing retreat. Courtney Maum is leading a fiction/nonfiction/memoir retreat with some kick-ass published and for-sure-will-be-published writers, using her own supportive and novel (get it?) model for good feedback and working together. And the FOOD! Once again, Daniel Garcia kills it with local produce and his bitchin' meats and sauces. First night: heritage tamaya blue corn polenta, sautéed greens, braised Polk's Folly beef with ancho sauce, followed by Mexican chocolate pots de crème.
Per usual, the lovely Mel Avegerakis sets the perfect tone, smooths everything, and even teaches yoga! Nephew Diego shows up with his freshly muzzle-loader-harvested bull elk, which Daniel grilled up for taste-testing. Mosie leads morning and evening hikes. Some amazing, heartfelt and heart wrenching personal readings around the fire at night. Lovely individuals honoring this space with their presence. Lots of good writing coming out of this one, for those of you who appreciate the written word.
Knitting retreat. August 2022. Knitting all day, with some hiking, eating, relaxing, and lots of fun camaraderie thrown in. Jennifer Berg .knitter joined us for the second year in a row, and brought her sister Jess who gave us a fascinating jewelry making demonstration using her grandfather’s tools. Delicious meals prepared by Chef Xavi . Anyone interested for 2023? Stay tuned for more information.
Ranchlands is doing a nice segment on PLACE in the month of February and included this piece about the ranch.

Moving pairs to a new pasture. Part of the move was along about 3 miles of county road. Not one vehicle to be seen while we were taking up all lanes. Slick.
What we make at the Monte Prieto
The first retreat! Slightly esoteric - a knitting book club group. Hiking, knitting, eating well. Full moon, some rattler sightings, making our own leather knitting bags. The best part: we were graced by a visit from 2 talented, lovely and fun designers from the Navajo Nation, Tressa Weidenaar and Jennifer Berg .knitter. One photo shows us in all the designs of theirs that we have made. A wonderful group, very well fed by who was a great addition to our hikes and helped in many ways besides offering fabulous meals.

This retreat may help you work on that. Consider taking some time to come to a unique setting where you will be taken care of, supported in un(b)locking your gifts and creativity.
