I have some very exciting news...

I'm so stoked to share - this week I was asked to be a supporting act for SIX60!! 🥳🤯 This news and opportunity has blown my mind! I'm so incredibly excited!!

All I've ever wanted to do was just play music! Whether that was simply through the radio on the workshop floor when I was painting cars, to where it began on my lounge room floor, where I found the oldest photo I have of me and my very first DJ unit! (It's soo long ago there's VCR tapes on the shelf!)
I had no idea how to use it, simply button mashed and tried to make sense of it all! But I knew I loved it! And then, all these years later, still with the same joy has lead me to this!
I really don't know how to explain it all, I think it hasn't really sunk in - one of New Zealand's biggest bands, ever, and I'm supporting them - It just doesn't make sense! But I'm ready, and already thinking of what to play!😎

I’m happy to say it worked!

I’ve been a DJ for as long as I can remember - playing my parents vinyls, recording radio music onto tapes, ripping music of Napster and making custom mix CDs for nights on the “lumbo”, to as most know me as the DJ - Boogie Beats - with the goal to not only enjoy music, but seeing others enjoy music too.
Last year I decided to make changes in my life to be present more, I was working a lot, and it was taking a toll - so we changed, and those changes were noticed this year - There was one moment in particular this season where I stopped, and randomly just looked around at the crowd in-front of me - there was bride and groom, their daughter, their friends, uncles aunties, sisters, brothers, nana and even the bar staff - everyone, all enjoying themselves, dancing, laughing, celebrating the day, why they were there who they all meant to each other and I couldn’t help but feel proud - what a cool moment, and I was present! I had the capacity to be present! It was a very cool moment and helped me feel like the changes helped, and there is more than just being a service, in that moment I was helping create a lifetime memory!
I reflect on the year and I’m stoked to do what I do - I try my dam hardest to deliver the best service to my clients and take my experience of the vinyls, tapes, mix CDs and lumbo runs and countless gigs to every event, and create the best memories possible! All through music!! It’s so cool to me! I love it, and I hope I can do it for a lot longer!

I want to say thank you to all my clients both past, present and future! And to all the vendors I’ve worked with over the years, thank you for all your support!

Im looking forward to next season! We’ve got some cool stuff happening in the background that I’m excited to share! But for now I’ll take some time off, reflect and enjoy extra time with my family!

It’s all down to trust!

In 15 years I haven’t paid for advertising once because advertising doesn’t build trust. I can’t buy it, you have to earn it. I DJ private events, I post the odd photo, but for the most part it’s private, for no one else, and I like to keep it that way! But that means future clients can’t experience me unless they are there- so how do you know you can trust someone at one of the biggest days of your life?! Well, you have to ask around and that trust is created from others experiences - Referrals and reviews! They are huge, and I appreciate every single one!

Quick maffs: I reckon if there’s around an average of 80 guests at a wedding, I’m no calculator but that means over the last 6 months I’ve DJd to about 4,200 people, which means in my career I’ve probably DJ’d to over 45,000 people, who hopefully I’ve had an impact on their lives in a positive way! lol! I do try!
But It’s not the numbers that I’m proud of, it’s all the newly married couples, mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, family, friends, kids, and pets - the people that I’ve had the privilege and honour of providing entertainment to, how cool!❤️

“Boogie Beats - DJ Entertainment AMAZING!! We chased this DJ/MC and spent a long time trying to co-incide this DJ and our venue to get the right dates that worked for both! We saw this DJ in action at a friends wedding and knew that was the one we wanted!!
Brendan felt like someone we had all known for a long time he was friendly, charasmatic and so easy to be around! Brendan guided us with what we needed to be doing and was adaptable to any last minute add ons or changes we needed!
Highlight of the night was letting our 3 year old Oscar take the microphone and help with the photos!! Loved it!!

The dance floor!!! My favourite!! Everytime I would come in one of our favourite songs would be on and there was never a dull moment or never a dull song!! He DEFINITELY is just as amazing as is his reputation!!”

I think I have a resting bitch face when I'm thinking lol I don't know why or how but I feel it's usually when I'm deep in thought on what's going on and what I'm doing - have I got everything I need right and ready to go, what's plan B if we need it, how can I help, is there a guest that needs assistance, can I help the staff, what can I do so the couple doesn't have to, is the dance floor pumping... how can I be better!
I don't feel like as a DJ you have to be just that, you're here to play music... yea that's a huge part, but what else can I do! There's some great options out there that maybe cheaper too, but how can I be better, and not to be better than others, be better for others. So if you see me and I have my resting bitch face on just know it's not that at all - I'm deep in thought... unless of course somebody has split drink on my gear, but I have a very different face for that lol

Over the past few months, I have been reflecting on my priorities and the balance I strive to maintain in my personal and professional life and the ability to give 100% to all aspects of these. I have come to the realisation that I need to make some changes in order to prioritise my family and create more quality time with them. It's been over 14 years of working two jobs, it's come at a cost, and I need to address that because we only live once! Long days, late nights, and most weekends taken up, missing so many things, social gatherings, friends birthdays, BBQs and most recently my kids birthday - It's this that was the kicker!

With this in mind, I've decided to create a reduction in my workload so that I can have more time to spend with my loved ones, and have the ability to give 100% to my clients. I understand that this may require some adjustments within the community, and I am willing to work with all of you to make the transition as smooth as possible. But initially we will be moving to a limited amount of bookings in a more boutique setting.

Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, and have been so honored to be invited to share your day and make it something special! I thank you for your support over these years! It's been a blast, and I look forward to continuing to give the best service and parties I can! I truly appreciate everyone of you, the opportunities that have come into our lives, and to be a part of such a supportive and dynamic wedding community I am confident that we will continue to work together to achieve great things.

For those of you who are booked in, have no fear, there will be no changes to you! I'm ready! But if you're on the fence about booking, there's not much space left on the calendar😅

🤷‍♂️ Did you know - I don't really promote it much but I can actually take photos of your afternoon too?! Think of me as a "secondary photographer" as it all happens when your main photographer is hanging out with you and your bridal party while the guests are all hanging out together and last weekend Leanne & Mark asked if I could do just that. I make sure the music is right first and then run around grabbing as many images as I can for you of your family and friends - relaxed shots, couple shots, group shots and action shots. And then this fills the entire day of images and you get to see what happened when you were away! But it’s gotta be all ok with your photographer too!👊

Imagine Spaghetti Bolognese without the spaghetti, Coffee Martini without the coffee, Jam on Toast without the jam and imagine a wedding... without music!

It's standard practice to have evening music, I mean that's a no-brainer! But it seems over the years, I've been made aware that there are people that don't even consider the effect not having music right throughout the day can have on their event, the vibe of the day, how relaxed guests are, how they interact with each other, the dance floor - ultimately peoples moods! It's not their fault, but I'm here to tell you music, it matters!! You must have music throughout the entire day! You cannot... I repeat you cannot get a pumping room without first setting it up! Yea, you can get people dancing, but actually full sendin' it on the dance floor, this all comes down to the start. The afternoon is the perfect way to set up a chill vibe, get people fully relaxed and in a good space. We're all stressed day in, day out, and when good people, good food and good music all combined with a celebration all come together the formula is set for a great day and night! So people... make sure you either get the right people on the job, or sit down and seriously consider your afternoon playlists - Add that spaghetti, that coffee and that jam! It makes all the difference!👊

Most people, when you say DJ they think dance floor... But when it comes to a wedding here at Boogie Beats, we can offer soo much more... This is a breakdown on our full day package!

1. Ceremony - providing speaker, music and wireless microphone. Even having music playing before the ceremony begins! Cueing your chosen songs perfectly in time with your celebrant and your arrival. The mic allows for variables and volume coverage. Take for instance here on a windy day it would be impossible to hear anything with the trees blowing in the wind, even with the classic "I've got a big voice"! Sorry no, you don't! 😅
2. Music adds atmosphere for the afternoon canapes, also with a mic on hand for the MC to round up your guests for photos, making things run faster, allowing more time for your photographer to get those wall worthy shots, instead of waiting for Uncle Bill to finish getting his beer. Honestly it's like trying to heard cats without one!🤦‍♂️
3. Quality audio speakers, can't beat good sound!
4. Set up for dinner/reception ready!
5. Surround sound speaker set up. All four corners of this room were covered with balanced audio. This not only aids in speeches so everyone can hear, but it also evens the sound levels throughout so you don't have one end of the room louder than the other.
6. And then all this leads into a great dance floor! It's not just about pushing play, you have to set it up!! And it starts as soon as the guests arrive!
7. Dancing til the end! 💯🤙🥳

Good luck getting Spotify to do all this! We take all that pressure and stress away with years of experience, thousands of dollars worth of quality gear, and one of the top things that your guests will remember from your wedding day... The music.

What would you answer if I asked you what’s more important for a good party - dinner music or dance music? If you answered dance music you’d be less correct. Over the years the best parties all begin with good dinner music! Trust me! You have to make people want to dance, you just can’t expect them to be in the mood. It’s all in the set up!

It's been 12 years since I started and boy have I learnt a lot.
Some nights are easy, I'm in the zone, the crowd are loving it and each song choice is effortless. Not all gigs are the same though, some are tough, what to do, what to play, some nights catch you completely off guard and the birdie dance fills the floor. But one thing you can't just make happen is magic, magic to me is when everyone is on the same vibe, having the time of their life, singing their hearts out and dancing like no one is watching! But like a magic trick the magician has to pull it off to wow the crowd, or a comedian for instance they can't just say the punch line and the jokes hilarious - it's about the set up. I've learnt DJ'n is no different, you have to set it up, the magic doesn't just happen, I'm in control of what happens, I don't always get it right but when I do, oooo boy it's magic. It's not just about pushing play.

Having the kids at home is great but it does disturb the workflow when they start to get bored and itchy, so I got out the decks on the deck and had a wee jam session in the sun! What a great way to spend the day and to do a different kind of learning! Wish they taught this at my school! 😜

👋 It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself… So I thought I’d say hi to all those who are new, and thanks to all those who have been with me along the way!
I’m Brendan, I love music! From picking up a vinyl at 7, randomly mixing songs on tapes while recording off the radio at 15, to making playlists on CDs for New Years, crusin’ the streets in my 20s with the sub pumpin, til now (age doesn’t matter🤫) music has always been a massive part of my life, and will always be! I love it!!
It’s an honour to be apart of someone’s event, and it’s freakin cool I get to do my thing with what I love about music… and what I seem to be pretty good at 🤷‍♂️, to make it something special!!
Thank you to everyone in supporting my passion! I wish I could thank all of you in person that spread Boogie Beats’ name wherever you can! I do hear about you, and it gives me a massive smile to know that! Truely, thank you! 🥰
