"...the luminous era spawned a generation of Filipino DJs, producers and promoters that would later carry on what the likes of local subculture legend, Toti Dalmacion ignited."

The 2 women started out as ravers back in the ‘90s. Little did they know, they were bound to become the local nightlife’s powerhouses.

"The capital’s electronic music industry is small compared to its neighbouring countries, even made smaller now that safe spaces and clubs like Today x Future, Pineapple Lab and XX XX have closed, all of which actively hosted, advocated and empowered trans talents behind the decks and on the dance floor. Closed-off circles, limited venues that truly embrace the community, and missed opportunities no thanks to the pandemic make the road for trans people in the local dance scene arduous. However, it’s not at all hopeless."

"Clubs are some of the last cultural spaces truly driven by young people, who run the bars, engineer the sound, book the nights, manage the venues and play the records. Marginalised communities have always organised in clubs, too; these venues have been spaces to shape one’s cultural and creative environment outside of the UK’s broadly homogenous public life."

Club culture has suffered during the pandemic and lost out on government support, but it is also eroded by a lack of acknowledgment of its unique position in the arts

"Those participating were traced in all their movements and contacts through a tag, as part of an effort to examine how events may safely be opened up for the public again. They had been divided into five “bubbles” of 250 people, plus one of 50, each of which had to comply with different rules."

Total of 1,300 people take part in event designed to aid decisions on how to reopen safely despite coronavirus

"Society is losing out too. The best nightclubs provide safe spaces for people from all walks of life. ... On the best nights, everyone in the crowd is under the DJ’s command, their song selections determining a communal journey. This is why the concept of a socially distanced club night, which removes such spontaneity and physicality, just doesn’t work."

My music only really makes sense on a packed, sweaty dancefloor. Let’s hope 21 June is a new start, says producer and DJ Laura Bettinson

Inuman, the Tagalog word for drinking, is an integral part of Filipino culture. Since we’re practicing social distancing and can’t meet up with friends, we’ve figured out an alternative: e-numan.

We are social animals and a close interaction is imperative for mental health. Drinking, for one, is a social activity that is essential to friendships, community, and industry. Filipinos love to drink with friends and family around. Inuman, the Tagalog word for drinking, is an integral part
