Captain Tasmin Doza has made history as the first woman to be appointed as a director in Bangladesh’s aviation sector. Biman Bangladesh Airlines announced today (October 14) that she has taken on the role of Director of Flight Operations.

Prior to this appointment, Captain Doza served as the Chief of the Training Flight Operations Department at Biman. A graduate of BUET, she earned her flying license from Bangladesh Flying Academy and has been an instructor on the Fokker-28, Boeing-737, and Boeing-787 Dreamliner.

মাকে হারানো এবং বাবার দ্বিতীয় বিয়ের পর নানাবাড়িতে ঠাঁই নিই আমরা ৬ বোন।

নানাও দ্বিতীয় বিয়ে করেছিলেন। তাই চাইলেও নানি নিজের মতো সব করতে পারতেন না। এমন হয়েছে ধানের মৌসুমে স্কুল থেকে ফেরার পথে জমিতে পড়ে থাকা ধানের ছড়া কুড়িয়ে আনতাম। নানি তা জমিয়ে বিক্রি করে জামাকাপড় কিনে দিতেন।

আমার ১০ বছর বয়সে আরও একবার বাবার কাছে থাকতে গিয়েছিলাম। সৎমা অযথা বকাবকি করতেন। ভালো লাগত না।

মনের দুঃখে তখন একবার আত্মহত্যার চেষ্টাও করেছিলাম। এরপর আমি আর আমার ছোটবোন নানির বাড়ি পালিয়ে যাই। তার কিছুদিন পর আমার বিয়ে হয়ে যায়। আমার স্বামী একটি যন্ত্রপাতির দোকানের ম্যানেজার ছিলেন।

ভালো থাকব তাই স্বামী-সন্তানসহ ঢাকায় আসি। নিরাপত্তাকর্মীর চাকরি নিই। ব্র্যাক নারীদের গাড়ি চালানো শেখায় তা এক পড়শির কাছ থেকে শোনা। কেমন হবে তা বুঝতে পারছিলাম না। স্বামী বললেন, চেষ্টা করে দেখ।

তিন মাস প্রশিক্ষণের পর এখন আমি পেশাদার ড্রাইভার, ব্র্যাকে চাকরি করি।

আমার ছেলে, শিবরাজ আর দেবরাজ ঢাকার স্কুলে পড়ে। মাঝেমাঝে ওদের গাড়ি চালিয়ে ঘুরতে নিয়ে যাই। খুব মজা পায় তারা।

এভাবে সবসময়ই আমি কোনো না কোনো পথ খুঁজে নিয়েছি সামনে এগিয়ে চলার।
