As a Black femme artist, her voice and cultural contributions have been pivotal in reshaping the Detroit dance scene. Through her work, Auntie Chanel has curated and collaborated on numerous events that center, uplift, and provide alternative income opportunities for q***r BIPOC.

On the dance floor, Auntie Chanel commands with a dynamic and unapologetic energy. Her mixing selections fuse femme-centric rap, vogue battle beats, hard techno, electro, ghettotech, and more, creating an immersive experience that celebrates freedom, resistance, and joy.

Day Residue make bristly punk driven by feelings of dissatisfaction and daily existential horrors, their chaotic sounds blueprinted in exacting measure. This has been more or less the Detroit band’s design since it started in late 2020 as a deep pandemic recording project between friends Cree Cree and Aleahia Thompson.

Dazed all-night demo sessions organically grew into a full-on band, the lineup rounded out by Isaac Fink and Ryan Clancy. They sharpened as they grew but kept the oblong weirdness of the band’s beginnings at their core. - Fred Thomas
