The 6th year of the Trireme projects starts today.
By now I thought I’d be hosting my own events in Sydney. Instead I’ve been in Perth for the last 10 months, the last bastion of a pandemic free party lifestyle.
⏪ Year 5 Recap:
I am grateful for the opportunities I had share the stages with incredibly talented neurofunk DJs and showcase the sounds of hardcore drum and bass in NSW and WA:
- Let's Get Stupid for my first proper gabber set in years, along with my usual breakfast Neurofunk.
- Illogical Events for giving me my NSW send off with a sunset bushdoof set.
- Remedy for inviting me over to Perth. Defyre for continuing to book me for his Opendeckfestwa events and PHDNB for making sure every other promoter knew I was in town.
- Nu-Clear Sounds for not one but two impromptu sets at their strictly DnB bush doofs!
- Motive Perth for inviting me to perform in a convenient store.
To all the other promoters in Perth who’d offered me an opportunity for me to perform but had to rescind due to the pandemic messing with schedules; and to the wicked local Neuro DJs who I was due to go B2B with: I will return to your city to make a crowd go crazy to syncopated and four-four drum and bass.
🖼️ Before I think of the year ahead. I want to comment about my experience in Perth from a big picture perspective:
As a city that is relatively small and extremely isolated, there is an incredibly rich party culture here. A simple way to put it: In Sydney, I’m in the top 5 best hard DnB DJs. In Perth, my skills wouldn't place me in the top 10 list of female hard DnB DJs who also produce, if I could pass through those two filters.
This city gives so many opportunities for young and/or driven musicians that want to nurture their passion beyond a hobby and into sustainable art. In fact, it’s not just those playing and making music. The party and rave culture in Perth is a legitimate source of income for many promoters, venue managers, label managers, video & photographers, AV production crews, marketing managers, music producing schools/tutors. Simply put: The underground EDM rave culture here really isn’t all that “underground”, and for a microculture it isn't all that "micro". As a punter who assumed this lifestyle simply for the love of the music, this is so inspiring and soul filling. I'll do my part to foster this drive and professionalism into Sydney as it tries to revive it's nightlife.
📙 So what's coming for me in the year ahead?
Last year I made a commitment to pursuing my art… however I'm not writing music, I'm actually writing a sci-fi novel! Being a writer has been a lifelong goal of mine. Unlike DJing, it’s not a skill I can be adept at within a few months and a standout professional within a few years.
This means Trireme is gonna be on simmer, not full burn. All I want to do with this project is share the sounds of the hardest DnB there is. I've already achieved so many milestones in 5 years: International gig at a prestigious club on the same line up with my Hardcore heros. Shared the stage with many of my DnB idols and earned their praise. Performed both at sunrise AND sunset in the bush with quality production and crowds big enough to make a dancefloor get dusty.
So, this is likely the last time I do a yearly recap. But certainly not the last time you'll see me on stage somewhere in NSW or WA. Hardcore Drum and Bass will never die ✊
