Fiona and Graham were married at the lovely Orocco Pier - South Queensferry in my hame toon of South Queensferry under the watchful eye of their gorgeous wee dog, Rosie 🐕(other family members and friends also present!). Check out that view of the Forth Bridge 👀

With Fiona rocking the HELL out of her super-cute 50's inspired dress, you'd be forgiven for thinking she'd be cool, calm and collected before heading up the aisle.

Er...naw.

But that's okay, because A. LOADS of folk get nervous and B. I am an absolute ninja at last-minute nerve-calming. We had a wee chat and Fiona relaxed enough to get to her lovely Graham and really enjoy their wedding ceremony. Making sure people are relaxed enough to have fun and enjoy their wedding is such an important part of my job!

Fiona was kind enough to send me a wee message:

"Thank you for the wonderful service, it was absolutely beautiful and lots of our friends and family commented on how special and funny it was and it captured us both perfectly.
I don't think I've been so nervous before entering that door to come down the aisle! But you put me at ease once i arrived.
I absolutely loved it 😍 esp the tying of the knot with the ribbon, it felt so special."

You really couldn't be more welcome, Mrs Muir! I loved being your celebrant and am SO grateful that you chose me to conduct your wedding! 🥰

Wishing you both much love and happiness. Please give Rosie a scritch behind the lugs for me and tell her she is a very good girl!

Mike is a folk music kind of guy, Tessa is all about TayTay.

But that doesn't matter one toot, because in all the ways that matter, they are perfectly aligned. And LOOK how thrilled and delighted they were to be married at the very end of last year! 😭🥰.

Tessa and Mike are such a wonderful couple. So in love and so much fun to work with. Every moment was a pleasure.

FYI - Their venue - the stunning House - is one of my favourite places to skip around in, pretending I am off of Downton Abbey. 🧐

Never HAD I ever before been asked to secretly write the gifting of a small, cuddly toy cow 🐄 into a ceremony. But thanks to bride Shannon and her awesome wing woman and bridesmaid, Ava, I can tick it off the list. The look on bride Steph's face when she received her surprise gift was bloody priceless 😂

Steph and Shannon tied the knot at the wonderful Orocco Pier in my home toon last year, and WHAT a day we had!

The brides both looked GORGEOUS in their utterly swoony dresses 🥰👰👰🥰

Their story is a total belter too. Highlights include:

someone being bitten by a hedgehog 🦔
someone being accidentally launched into a wall 🧱 and
dancing beside portaloos 🚻 at a festival!

It was a day of love, laughter and joy and I am so grateful I got to be a wee part of it.

Mrs Connelly and Mrs Connelly - you were an utter pleasure to work with from beginning to end! Thank you x1000000 for choosing me to conduct your wedding.

Like a technophobic bear, I tend to hibernate from the old socials over the festive season. But here I am screaming back with this absolute belter of a wedding. 💪💅

Rea and Rikki are SO in love. They are two of the kindest, funniest and nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. And excuse me, but HOW darned handsome are they?!

Their gorgeous wedding was held at the stunning Neidpath Castle in Peebles.

There was:

Singing (not me - don't worry)
Laughter
Tears
An oathing stone
A dog with a tie
Whisky
One of the best squads ever
An honest-to-goodness PIPE BAND

And SO. MUCH. LOVE. 🥰🥰🥰

Maddie and Scott only went and got married. 🍾✨👰🤵✨🍾

Their wedding was held at one of my tippy-top FAVE venues, Netherbyres House and was an explosion of colour, smiles and LOVE 🥰. Music was provided by the gorgeous (check out their Insta) who were simply amazing.

Maddie was kind enough to drop me a wee message: "We had a fantastic day and so many people commented on how fabulous the ceremony (and you!) were. We couldn’t have asked for a more “us” ceremony, or better start to married life - thank you for making it so relaxed and fun!"

You really couldn't be more welcome lovely, lovely people.

(My apologies for all the looming. Why must I loom so? I cannot help but loom.)

Another wonderful day, celebrating the love between two wonderful people. Lucky, lucky, LUCKY me!

Holly and Matt are such a cool, stylish pair, it was no surprise that their wedding at the gorgeous Summerhall in Edinburgh was a thing of extraordinary beauty.

Holly's mum made that incredible handfasting band, tying in all the autumnal colours, mirrored in the hand-crafted lampshades, the flowers and of course the bridesmaids dresses.

THOSE COLOURS! 😍 (captured by Patrick Alexander Weddings who was brilliant and SO much fun to work with.

Holly and Matt were kind enough to leave me a review:

"Matt and I were married in September by Sarah in our beautifully ceremony in Summerhall. It was tailored to our story and for that it was SO memorable. Sarah was so kind, thoughtful and a brilliant speaker when it came to telling our story. We had so many compliments from guests who were incredibly impressed with how different it was, being fresh and vibrant but with some traditional aspects! As a creative family, we absolutely adored that Sarah made room for our excitement of the day, calling out the bridesmaids and best men, as well my dad. My mum was even able to make the hand fasting rope that Sarah was more than happy to include. We will never forget it, and we’re so glad that Sarah could bring it all together so brilliantly. We’re very thankful, and would recommend Sarah to anyone looking for that personal touch! Holly & Matt X"

Wishing you both so much love, light and endless tacos for the future. ###

When your bride and groom and ALL the guests are so excited they totally jump the gun and start mad cheering before I have a chance to announce them married!

Love that www.douglasmackenzie.co.uk managed to capture WAIT FOR IT and GO CRAZY 😂 (tags playing up so my apologies - I'll try and fix it. Please don't come for me!)

Shonagh and Kalen's ceremony at the gorgeous Cornhill Castle was full of fun, laughter and love, just like they are. Their love story is so darned romantic I had a job not swooning in the telling of it.

Wishing you both so much love and light, you gorgeous people. Huge thanks for letting me have a wee part of your special day ###

Me: You've GOAT to be joking?!

Maui and Stewart: We're no KIDDING

Maui and Stewart understood the assignment, which goes something like this:

On YOUR wedding day, do WHATEVER makes YOU happy!
Definitely including inviting a petting zoo along to delight your guests (and your celebrant) after the ceremony is over.

The summer came scampering back for an extra day for this glorious, quirky, fun-filled wedding at the gorgeous Secret Garden Distillery

There was a wedding cake piñata 🍰
and
Llamas / alpacas 🦙
and
Goats (obvs) 🐐
and
Maui's cane lit up ✨
and
Ponies 🐎
and
Grapes-that-were-growing-on-the-actual-vine 🍇
and
Laughter 🤣
and
SO
MUCH
LOVE ❤❤❤❤❤

Friday the 13th was the PERFECT date to post Roxanne and Liam's wedding.

For the reasons.

They put so much thought into the decor for their beautiful wedding at Lochgreen House Hotel & Spa with wee skull vases and roses hung upside down from above (by the cleverest clogs Paperwhite Floral Design) . It was SO cool and SO gorgeous.

Roxanne was a wee bit nervous before we got underway (which is TOTALLY NORMAL) but just look at how she and Liam shone 🌟. And please take a moment for Roxanne's .

The darlings that they are dropped me a line after their wedding:

"I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you so much for being an extra special part of our day and bringing the vibe 🙏 You nailed the brief and our guests were commenting on the ceremony and how land back yet professional you were. The selfie idea was great and I am so happy we booked you! You really made the ceremony that bit cooler 😎 I have attached some photos for you and hope you receive them OK

Love Mr and Mrs Rainey x💜💀"

I have never in my life made anything cooler and my seflies are always atrocious, but thank you for the kind words.😂

All the good pics by the gorgeous Anna Laska Photography (dodgy one by me)
Flowers: By Lisa Gaston (who I cannot find to tag, but please do if you know her because they were stunning)

Aren't Jasmaine and Blair the cutest couple? Yes. Yes they are!

And guess what? They've known each other since they were teeny tiny S1 pupils at high school.

They only got together in the summer after S6. They told their parents they were meeting up with lots of pals, but would slope off to sit at a bench at the local sailing club, just the two of them. I'm not sure my old heart can take that level of wholesome cuteness. 🥰🥰🥰

They were lovely enough to drop me a wee line the DAY AFTER their ceremony (😭).

Hi Sarah,

Just wanted to give you a massive thank you for yesterday, the ceremony was wonderful and you have been fantastic throughout this whole process.

Everyone was saying that it was the best ceremony they've ever been to and how funny and lovely you were.

Thank you for everything!

Jasmaine and Blair

Well, thank YOU two too! You are wonderful, kind, gorgeous humans and I utterly adore you both.

Congratulations again, Mr and Mrs MacDonald. I feel so lucky you chose me to conduct your wedding. Wishing you both every happiness you could wish for yourselves ❤😍🍾🎉🥰🤗

When faced with a floral arch this epic, what else am I to do but tit around in front of it?!

Made a passing young person take the pic of me, then the wedding dog-wrangler^ wrangle the gorgeous Henry to sit in front of it so i could take a pic of him, then insisted poor Craig* off of get a selfie with me (he did not enjoy this experience).

^I forgot to get her name but please tag if you know her.

*Fun fact. I've never worked with Craig before, but we were once at a rather slow wedding fayre together. So slow that the time was passed titting around and having a laugh, so it was like working with an old pal.

When Mark asked Bernie to marry him, their wee boy Oscar was there to help out. It's only right then, that he was front and centre on their gorgeous wedding day at The Vu. HOW cute is he?😍

Bernie and Mark's friends and family were chuffed to bits for them. There was a lot of laughter, a few tears, and just the right amount of gentle heckling throughout.

Bernie was kind enough to drop me a wee review:

"I absolutely cannot recommend Sarah enough
🌟
From the very first email to the wedding day she made everything more than perfect for us.
She told our story exactly how we would’ve told it ourselves.. 🤍
Thank you so much Sarah."

Thank YOU for letting me be a wee part of your big day, you marvellous people.

A little more info

Humanism is about shared values including equality, respect and kindness.

Humanists believe that people can make good and ethical decisions simply because it is the right thing to do. In a world that can feel increasingly divisive, it is comforting to be part of a movement that celebrates basic decency, respects our natural environment, challenges inequality and champions human rights. Many (or even most) people may be Humanists without even realising it.

My role as a celebrant involves working closely with families to ensure that the ceremony delivered is entirely personal and reflective of their values and personalities. For some, this will be low-key and simple while others enjoy a bit more razzamatazz. Wherever you are on that scale, I will work with you to produce a ceremony that is just right for you; that is warm, dignified and if appropriate, a lot of fun too.

Working as a celebrant gives me the opportunity to meet people at key times in their lives. I am always grateful for the privilege that this position brings with it, and ever aware of the responsibility that is part of the package.
