Since time immemorial, our ancestors have been using sacred mantras and hymns before starting their journey. Praying for trouble-free travel and reaching the destination with a cheerful disposition has been an integral part of our traditions. Among the sacred mantras that can help one overcome fears and anxiety before setting out, and to ward off the evils and dangers associated with the travel, the Margabandhu Stotram that seeks the blessing of Siva, ranks as one of the foremost. The Stotram was composed by Sri Appayya Diksh*tar, the renowned yogi and a great exponent of advaita Vedanta, who is considered as an avatar of Lord Siva.
Here is a verse from the sacred composition with its English translation :
नित्यम् चिदानन्दरूपं
निह्नुताशेषलोकेशवैरिप्रतापम् ।
कार्तस्वरागेन्द्रचापं कृत्तिवासं
भजे दिव्यसन्मार्गबन्धुम् ।
शम्भो महादेव देव, शम्भो महादेव देवेश शम्भो ॥ ३॥

The eternal one and the manifestation of pure consciousness. The one who removed pride of Ravana, the enemy of Indra. The one who used Mountain Meru as a bow. The one who wears the skins and bark of trees, I bow to you, the companion of those who chooses the path of righteousness.
Salutations to the Great God Siva, I bow to you, O God of the Gods.

The best ‘sravana’ (listening to) is ‘I am not the body’, the best ‘manana’ (reflecting on) is ‘I am not the body’, the best ‘nididhyasana’ (uninterrupted contemplation) is ‘I am not the body,’ and the best ‘samadhi’ (direct experience of the Self) is when this thought too disappears. - Sri Ramana Maharshi

The 33rd Jagadguru of Sringeri Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrsimha Bharati Mahaswamigal makes an exquisite prayer to Devi Sharadamba to bestow the company of virtuous people. In His classic hymn, Kamalajadayita Ashtakam (meaning the Eight verses on Saraswati, the Consort of Brahma), he says in the fifth sloka, Satsangam sat kathaaya sravanamapi sada devi datva krupabdhe. 'O Kamalajadayite, vouchsafe me as soon as possible with good association of people, the ability to listen to stories that bring about right behaviour, with wisdom, purity and a sound intellect, You an ocean of mercy.' source: tattvaloka.com

It is satsanga, the company of the good that enables us to slowly become free from both attachment and aversion. To the extent that the mind is pure, it enjoys peace, serenity, and composure, balance or equipoise. Vedanta says clearly that liberation or freedom has to come even when you are alive. Then alone can the person be liberated once the body falls. It is satsanga, the company of the wise or the company of the good, which ultimately leads to jivanmukti.

Make the best use of the opportunities you have now (to study our sacred literature). Even if, despite your best efforts, you are unable to completely escape the cycle of birth and death, you will at least have made yourself stronger and better prepared for any limitations you may face in your next life. - Words of Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

The sastras declare that all obstacles are removed by worshipping Lord Ganapati. Bhagawan incarnates in order to punish the wicked and protect the good. Ganesha also saved the world by destroying demons, such as Gajasura. If devotees worship Ganesha with devotion, he will fulfill all their wishes. Ganesha has been extolled extensively in Ganapati Atharvasirsha and Ganesha Purana. May all worship Ganesa and attain prosperity. - Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji

Golden words of Jyeshta Mahasannidhanam Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji: "One should speak the truth. Further, one's words should be pleasant and beneficial to others. Distressing truths should not be irresponsibly verbalized, and words should not be chosen to mislead others."

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji:
The Sastras are for the welfare of mankind. They emphatically maintain that one's karmas alone are the cause for the enjoyment and suffering of mankind.

सुखस्य दुःखस्य न कोऽपि दाता परो ददाति इति कुबुध्दिरेषा ।
अहं करोमीति वृथाभिमानः स्वकर्मसूत्रग्रथितो हि लोकः ॥

A man's joy and sorrow is not caused by another person (but by his own karma only). To think that they are caused by others is a wrong perception. Equally vain is to think of oneself as the doer of everything. One's world is set up by one's own karma only.

It logically follows that a happy life is preceded by good karmas (dharmic acts) alone. If the present condition is due to one's own past karmas, naturally his future state will depend on the person's present thoughts and actions only.
