Disc herniations can heal! 💪
“One of the issues I get the most questions on is low back pain, especially disc herniations. While there is a lot that goes into this question, two things I usually mention are that disc herniations are common in much of the asymptomatic population and that they can heal with time and conservative treatment.
The article cited below and presented in the image sought to determine the probability of spontaneous disc regression among each type of lumbar herniated disc.
What did they find⁉️ Spontaneous regression of herniated disc tissue can occur, and can completely resolve after conservative treatment.
✅Data by herniation type were as follows: The rate of spontaneous regression was found to be:
1️⃣96% for disc sequestration
2️⃣70% for disc extrusion
3️⃣41% for disc protrusion
4️⃣13% for disc bulging.
👉The rate of complete resolution of disc herniation was 43% for sequestrated discs and 15% for extruded discs.
