PE MUSIC SOCIETY CONCERT - 18 MAY 2022
This concert is a collaboration between the PE Music Society and the Feather Market Organ Society.
Top musicians will present a richly varied programme in the lovely acoustics of the Dutch Reformed Church, Summerstrand.
Erika Bothma, will be playing Schubert’s well-known Impromptu Op. 142 No 3. For this performance, a grand piano will be especially brought to the church from the Nelson Mandela University. Erika and woodwind colleague, Erna Cloete, will also play a lovely piano duet, Dovorak’s Slavonic Dance Op. 72 No. 10.
Two sopranos, Linda Gushu and Luleka Mabaso, will respectively sing Mendelssohn’s, Hear ye, Israel and O rest in the Lord. The Voice lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, Njabulo Mthimkhulu, baritone, will sing Wamuhle Mzantsi by Sibusiso Njeza, and the brilliant local violin virtuoso, David Bester, will perform the Romance Op 26 by Svendsen, accompanied by Erika Bothma. She will also accompany the flautists, Erna Cloete and Liza Klopper, in a charming Rondo for Two Flutes by Cimarosa.
You will also hear the première performance of two new organ and piano duo arrangements (Troskie and Bothma) of a Concerto by Vivaldi and Bach’s Sheep may safely graze. Organ solos will be played by 4th year organ student, Cameron Lee, who will also receive the FMOS/RSCM bursary, and Albert Troskie, who will open the concert with the Grand March from Aïda by Verdi.
In addition, the programme includes two further unique performances by Jazz pianist, John Edwards, with a Dave Brubeck Medley, whilst four music students will play three pieces on their Steel Pans, including Bach’s Aria on the G-string.
