Dear past Jo, I know that you thought that it was a fantastic idea to write a 50 minute magic show as a rhyming children's story, but how in the world did you think you would be able to pull that off WHILE performing mind-blowing magic?

It's lucky that you invited Kellie Shiells - primary and drama teacher extraordinaire to perform with you this year!

Introducing Kellie Shiells:

Kellie and Jo have been friends since year 7 when Kellie sat next to Jo on the bus and started talking. While Jo was completing her honours degree in Drama she made a (not-at-all pretentious) avant-garde film called 'St Potato @ 5pm'. Kellie agreed star in the film, which required her to eat words torn from from newspapers for 40 minutes. Kellie has graciously agreed to be in 'Matilda McMishen...is not a Musician' on the condition that she doesn't get ink poisoning...again.

The Melbourne Magic Festival is on again very soon (1st -13th July)! Melbourne winters tend to be pretty cold and dark. How about a bit of sparkle and magic to tide you over until we get some sun again? I'm appearing in two shows this year. 'Matilda McMishen is not a Musician' (for ages 4-11) and 'Lobster Telephone' (ages 15+) but there are also 31 other (and incredible) magicians who will be presenting shows for all ages. Catch David Waldron and I in our new History/Magic show '9 and a half things you didn't know about Harry Houdini' next month at the Australian Heritage Festival ! The first performance of this show will be at the Melton Library & Learning Hub, which is not far from Diggers Rest, the site where in 1910 Houdini made what is claimed to be the first controlled powered flight in Australia. Thank you to Myli - My Community Library Warragul for inviting us to perform my brand new kids kids show 'Matilda McMishen...is not a Musician' at their beautiful library on the last day of the school holidays. For this show I had a guest performer! Kellie Shiells , who is an experienced primary school teacher played ALL of the other characters in the show. Many thanks to Laura and Chantelle for coordinating the event, and the 80 people who came to see us.

Matilda McMishen will be appearing many more times this year, including at the 2024 The Melbourne Magic Festival Tickets will be sold from next week. So stay tuned!
