Earlier today, I hosted our latest Event Pros Book Club meet-up, discussing Celeste Headlee's "Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving".
We talked about redefining "being productive" and embracing leisure time. One person mentioned their morning walk routine, where they get up and go on a walk, changing the length of time based on when she wakes up. Another person mentioned they use morning walks at conferences/work trips to invite colleagues to connect (instead of those post-show happy hours/dinners).
We liked the idea of Celeste's "untouchable day," a workday during which she doesn't check email or social media and just gets her own work done. Lastly, we dove into setting expectations with clients and vendors on response time.
Thank you to Merix, Bailee, Julianne, Christine, Therese, Jillian, Jackie, Rita, Mary, Marisa, Elizabeth, Dena and Alycia for joining!

Tuesday - Think About Your Event Recordings
I was talking with another producer last week and we were swapping stories about the last-minute adjustments/changes that get made based on event recordings. Event recordings can often be forgotten in the pre-planning process, leading to a last-minute hustle onsite.
Ask these three questions I shared during your pre-planning process and your A/V provider will thank you!
The answers to those three questions can impact the music you play during your event, the quality of the cameras you need and if you need a person on your A/V team solely dedicated to recording management (especially if you have a big event with multiple concurrent sessions).
If you have questions about your event as you begin planning or want to work with me, send me a message!

Freelancer/company pro tip: Enforce your late payment policies!
I struggled with some late payments from clients back in spring of 2023. I didn't feel like it was fair to hit clients with what felt like a "surprise" late fee, even though it's spelled out in my contract. I use DocuSign to put a place for my clients to initial right next to my late payment policy. That way they see it from the start when we start our new contract. Even if you're also only a company of one or a freelancer, I encourage you to have your own payment terms and late payment policies to make sure that you're getting paid when you need to!

Accountability is a gamechanger.
Caveat: No productivity/goal-setting hack will work for everyone but this is tried and tested by me!
I'm very externally motivated - if I have a client, a colleague, friend or family member relying on me to do soemthing, I'm going to do it! Doing something just for myselt, well that can get pushed to the bottom of my to do list, especially when I'm busy.
2021 taught me that when I have accountability partners for projects, for my business, for myself, progress happens. I'm not saying I couldn't have eventually done things on my own but having that other person helped me achieve those goals faster, like my @bettereventspod co-host @maryrosedavidson of @epeventsllc.
If you're setting a goal of launching a new project, new job, creative endeavor, or becoming more of your best self, get an accountability partner. Someone you can talk to, check-in with, and bounce ideas off of or even partner with on doing any of those things! It's a game changer, seriously.
What are your tips for achieving your goals in 2022?

Meet Logan
Hi, I’m Logan
I first fell in love with events as a banquet server at a country club in college. It was the first time I saw the amount of work that went into creating a few memorable hours for the guests. Over the years, I’ve continued to fall in love with the planning process and details that go into making an event happen.
I graduated with a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Virginia. In 2014, I moved to Shanghai to utilize my Mandarin language skills and explore the international sports market. I started working in social media marketing but quickly realized that I had the most fun at live events and working with people. In October 2016, I founded Logan Strategy Group to create and execute quality events in China, the US, and around the world. I recently moved to Seattle, WA and currently split my time between the US and abroad.
Over the last 6 years, I’ve worked with companies of all sizes, including sports teams, brands, universities, non-profits, and individuals. I’ve been a one-woman show all the way up through working on a team for a large-scale event. In 2019, I was a sports presentation producer for professional volleyball with the FIVB, organized a non-profit gala, served as an assistant for a VIP reception, stage-managed a college basketball tournament, co-organized the annual TEDxSeattleWomen event, and led player transportation for a pro tennis tournament.
Outside of work, I love getting to explore my new home, Seattle, trying new sports, and cheering on my favorite sports team. My current sports obsession is bobsledding. I’ve been training for the past two years to be on the US Bobsled club team. In January 2020, I completed the driving school in Park City, Utah and am continuing to train and make time to get back on the ice.
With over 60 events under my belt, I believe that the different projects help keep my work fresh and fun and there’s always something I can learn for future events.
Interested in working with me on your next event, send me an email me at [email protected]
