Last night we had the privilege of enjoying my cousin’s beautiful wedding from a different POV than usual - as guests!

Another guest asked me “are you constantly taking mental notes when you attend events?” And it made me think about what do I actually pay attention to as a guest, vs what I hear my clients prioritize?

Here’s what I came up with:
1. As a guest, I love walking into a wedding and it feeling like the couple. And I say “feeling like” and not “looking like” intentionally. The look of a wedding plays a huge factor in how it feels - but it can’t stop with looks. But putting that extra effort into how it feels? That’s what gives your guests the “wow” factor! A feeling isn’t something you can rent - it’s created by so many things. Truly, I could yap about this topic forever!

2. Logistics aren’t something glamorous, or something you can find on Pinterest. Again, huge contributing factor to the feel of your wedding. Having multiple bars based on guest count may not be what you want to spend your money on, but your guest experience will be heavily affected by your logistics (or lack there of). Your wedding is only as good as the staff you have making it happen!

3. Is the couple enjoying themselves? If you want to have a fun wedding… You gotta be fun! You can’t wonder why people aren’t dancing if you (bride/groom) are just sitting at a table. One of my favorite moments of last night (of many) was seeing the newlyweds still tearing up the dancefloor and when I glanced over saw a single tear of happiness running down the brides face! She truly looked like she was on cloud nine, dancing with her new husband surrounded by so many of their favorite people dancing around them.

I say allllllll this to say - sometimes (okay, like all the time) creating YOUR perfect evening is so much more than picking trendy colors that you see in Pinterest, or doing something because your friend did it at her wedding. Making your night representative of your love is going to set your wedding apart from the rest every time!

In the spirit of the month of love and weddings being a big part of what I do, let me be very clear about something- your love is safe with me.

Over the last decade, I’ve had the incredible privilege of being a part of all kinds of love. I have been able to be a part of everything from religious ceremonies, civil unions, sangeets, traditional Nigerian ceremonies, tea ceremonies and much more. Those experiences and learning opportunities are exactly what have shaped me into the planner I am today.

It makes no difference to me if my clients are straight, same s*x, purple, green, in*******al, Catholic, non-religious, rich, poor or anything in between - I love each and every one of them and want their day to be better than they’ve ever dreamed.

It never occurred to me to post this, as people who know me personally know I love all God’s people. However, it’s not lost on me that there are some people that don’t share the same values as I do. Today when I saw Allie Nelson Photography post this, I know many of her clients and potential clients felt so safe, and so seen.

I feel so strongly that God wants me to love his people and do right by them - so that’s exactly how I plan on running my business and living my day to day life.

This either has a very short, or very long explanation! Each work wonderfully for different clients.

Common misconception:
-Coordination shows up the day of the wedding and facilitates the day
-Full service picks everything for you and you have no say so (seriously… I’ve been told this)

The short answer is a Coordinator coordinates everything YOU planned. This service takes your plan, gets with your vendors to confirm details, makes a timeline and facilitates the logistics of both the rehearsal and the wedding day.

A Planner walks through the planning process with you! Keeping you in check with your budget, advising you on how to get the most for your budget, event styling and design, tracking tasks/ to do’s to make sure they’re completed in a timely manner, curating a team of professional vendors, and much more!

One thing I struggle with a lot is working hours and when to stop. It can be so easy to have an email pop up on my phone and think “well it’s just one email and it’s a quick answer” which is true! But then a bunch of them turns into working, then turns into grabbing my laptop, then turns into seeing a note at my desk for my “to-dos” and next thing I know I’ve worked the entire time that I said would be family time.

So this morning, until noon, is REALLY family time! Not to worry, all my afternoon/evening meetings are still on and I’ll catch up on anything that comes in this morning when I sit down at my desk this afternoon. But this morning is for sipping coffee and watching our girl see her first snow, putting on a big pot of loaded potato soup and chocolate chip cookies, and when the wind dies down building her her first “no-me” (snowman😂)
