Ruckus Fam! Our friends at Uplift Poetry are bringing some international writers for you to enjoy.

‘a panic room / a piercing: an evening with Singaporean authors.’
Monday 27 May, 5-6pm AEST.
Presented by Sing Lit Station and Uplift.
In-Person: Community Meeting Room, Brisbane Square Library, 266 George Street,
Brisbane, QLD, 4000
Grab your free ticket: https://events.humanitix.com/a-panic-room-a-piercing-an-evening-
with-singaporean-authors
RSVP via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/2068316193549531/
Online: No ticket required! This event will also be live-streamed via the Uplift Poetry
Instagram page.
Featuring Amanda Chong, Balli Kaur Jaswal, Daryl Lim Wei Jie, Daryl QIlin Yam, Joshua Ip and
Shivram Gopinath.
Who can say what the Singaporean state of mind is? May it be found on a visit to the columbarium, or on the slide of a PowerPoint presentation? Or perhaps via a glimpse out of ones bedroom window during lockdown – or in the miraculous brush of snow on the top of ones lips?
For one night only, join us for a special gathering of Singapores leading writers at the Brisbane Square Library, where an evening of intimate readings might provide answers to
this particular conundrum.
Audience Q&As and book signings will follow.

Fifteen years after his award-winning collection of stories, The Boat, Nam Le returns to his great themes of identity and representation in a breakthrough book of poetry.

36 Ways of Writing a Vietnamese Poem, says Nam, a Vietnamese refugee to Australia, is “the book I’ve been writing my whole life”. This epic collection is an urgent, unsettling reckoning with identity and the violence of identity that honours the conventions of diasporic literature before shattering the form itself.

Join Nam in conversation with poet Felicity Plunkett to discuss his virtuosic poetry debut.

In partnership with Australian Poetry via the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.

WHEN: Friday 24 May 2024 3-4pm
WHERE: Carriageworks, Bay 19

Wonderful international poetry workshops coming up!

The Climate of Change Poetry Workshops

Book them together or individually! Thursdays, 5-7.30pm

18th April, Creaturely Connection: Other animals are more than ‘useful metaphors’, anthropomorphic characters, romantic or cute images. They are more than how they can be used or dominated by humans. How do we creatively express our connection to the other creatures that we share the web of life with?

16th May, Nurturing Cities and Towns: Wherever you live, cities and towns are core to our culture, lifestyles and carbon footprints. What kinds of spaces and places for nature could there be? How might we live a more connected, more human, more climate-friendly and nature-led life in cities and towns?

13th June: The Nature of Change: In a time of great change, how we process change as individuals and collectively, how we become more resilient to change, is crucial. Can a poem change you? There’s been many positive changes thorough history to inspire us, and many poems written about personal, political and environmental change. Find unique ways to write about the change we need, the change that’s difficult, wise, hopeful and can be very positive.
