Apple Maps has an incorrect address for us - our studio/storefront is located at 3463 Walnut St., ste 4 - in the Edit building. We’d love to see you (but at that location only!)
If you've been following along on our Autumn dahlia tuber process, here is the info about storing them for the Winter. Everyone does things a little differently but this is how we've landed after much trial and error over the years (and is much more sustainable than plastic wrap!)
Tis the season for digging and storing your dahlia tubers! Well, in Denver, at least. Here is a quick snippet of how we do it on our tiny farm.
We've had a few killing frosts now so your dahlias are likely turning black and definitely dunzo for the season like these were.
First step - make sure you attach a label to the plant. We use flagging tape for support while they're growing and then I just take the same piece, label it, and tie it tightly to the main stalk just above the soil.
Then we cut the plant down to about 18" and oh-so-carefully use a garden fork or pitchfork to lift the plant and clump of tubers out. The key here is to avoid cutting or breaking the tubers if you can.
We then trim off all the long roots and pack them in crates with the soil still on (helps with moisture and preventing breakage) until it's time to clean and divide them.
We will share more about the dividing process soon but in the meantime, what questions do you have about your dahlias?
