Why do we use FIRE in Ritual?
For centuries, the element of fire has been used in ritual, in healing, in divination, in cleansing…it’s heat offering us a place to cook our food, to commune with family & friends, to find warmth in the cold….
Fire shows us the, often fine, lines of balance needed in an Element.
It cannot be kindled without something from Earth, but too much wood and left out of control, it can become destructive…it needs Air to burn, but too much and it goes out…it can be easily put out with Water & yet Fire can be used to boil it & create steam…everything here needs to be in balance.
Symbolically, energetically, literally, Fire shows us how beneficial & beautiful the right amount of anything can be…but also, how destructive and detrimental too little or too much can be. It shows us the cycle of birth & death. It reminds us of the spark within, our inner sun that needs to keep burning brightly.

Fire is used in ritual for many reasons, & in many forms. To release, to activate, to protect, to purify…to honour Gods & Goddesses…through candle magick, the lighting of herbs, the use of a big fire place or a small cauldron, however it is done & whatever it is for, Fire is a powerful element indeed.
At our Gathering on March 22nd, we are using Fire as a form of transformation, death & rebirth…as a way to release what is no longer working for us and cleanse the negative energy around it. We will allow the fire to burn away what needs to be released and also, ignite energy around what we are replacing it with. 🔥
