✨Launching something new this week ✨
This won’t be surprising for close friends and family, but after over 20 years of doing this work for those that I love, I want to start making an impact with a wider community.

Death is sh*tty and scary and chaotic at best. Having a trusted guide (a Doula) that’s been through this before can help reduce anxiety, get paperwork in proper order and give your family the much needed breathing room to be fully present at the bedside.

I’ve worked in death care spaces since I was 17. From hospice volunteering to doing coroner autopsies to holding vigil and witnessing several last breaths, I’ve done a lot. And while each death is as unique as each life there are a lot of commonalities and boxes that can get checked to help make things easier.

🚨COOLER CLEAR OUT🚨

The rain has trashed my greens and other things have been nipped by frost but I tucked away just enough heirloom chrysanthemums to stock the stand Wednesday and Thursday for your family festivities. 🍁🦃🍁

Whether you’re hosting or just rolling up to your bffs house in your elastic waist pants, flowers are always a good look 😉

These $15 bunches will be out at the stand along with some gorgeous wreaths, place setting bouquets and mini wreaths if you want to go all out on your tablescapes.

🎨✨ I’m vending at Open Studios at the Tin Can!

I’m so excited to be part of the Open Studios at the Tin Can on Saturday, November 16 from 11 AM to 4 PM! I’ll be there along with to offer our wreaths, craft boxes and all the beautiful dried flowers we grew this year! There will be 30 amazing artists in total! It’s the perfect chance to shop local and find unique, handcrafted pieces – whether you’re treating yourself or getting a head start on your holiday gift list.
Alongside our gorgeous dried blooms, you’ll find everything from paintings to ceramics to textiles, plus delicious Tacos from a food truck during the Open-Air Art Market. It’s a one-day-only event you won’t want to miss!

The Redhead Flowerbed team has a new family member!

Everyone meet, Orlaith ☘️

It’s pronounced Orla but since it’s Irish we figured we should give it the appropriate spelling.

This sweet mama went to the SPCA with a brand new litter of 11 puppies and went right to the best foster mama ever who reached out to see if we were ready to add one more special gal to the farm roster.

How could we say “no” ? I mean isn’t this just the most beautiful doggo? She’s healing up from spay and her first job is to pack on some more lbs! Feeding 11 puppies deserves an Olympic gold medal 🥇

We’re excited to see her personality grow as she settles in and we already adore her pure sweet d***y love. If you’ve ever read the Iron Druid book series she’s exactly like her namesake!

🏖️ SUMMER BREAK TIME 🏖️

We will NOT be .farmersmarket this weekend or next and the farm stand will NOT be stocked.

If you have a special order mid-week I’m happy to create something custom for you but we’ll be spending the next few weekends having fun with our families, like summer was meant to be spent.

I’ve been at this flower farm thing for almost 7 years now and every year I loathe working in July & August. If you’ve meet me, you know I have 2 shades: see through and lobster. I’m genetically predisposed to be farming in a rain soaked bog in Scotland, not 118° direct sun. 🦞 😅

I’ve long lamented with my farmer friends that “if I could just figure out how to farm in Spring and Fall, I might actually love this.” So I’m taking some time and steps towards figuring that out.

That doesn’t mean we are done for the season and that I’m just sitting around drinking margaritas the rest of the year. I’ll be putting every bit of effort I can into cleaning up the farm, flipping long neglected flowerbeds, and planting for an AMAZING fall filled with sunflowers, amaranths, zinnias, heirloom chrysanthemums and more!

I’ll open the stand here and there, if it’s not 120°, so keep an eye on stories to catch those dates. And we’ll be at the farmers market off and on but for the most part…Summer break is “ON” ✌️

With just a few clicks you can have the most unforgettable flowers to gift.

I’ve teamed up with my flower BFF again and between the 2 of us we have some amazing blooms for Mother’s day!

Our Farmers Market schedule and the inability to be in 2 places at once (scientists really need to work on solving that!) means pre-ordered bouquets will be available for pick up from the farm stand Sunday morning ONLY, May 12th from 8am-noon.
 We will be fully stocked at the Oak Park Farmers Market 3500 5th ave, from 9am-1pm Saturday May 11th
OR
Swing by the farm stand at 5725 26th st. With a variety of bouquets for self-serve there will be lots of early morning options but all on a first come first serve basis.

BUT…
The only way to guarantee we have a bouquet for you is by ordering through the website. You have until Friday at 10am to do that!  Quantities are limited and I expect we will sell out so don’t procrastinate!

It’s prom season 💃🕺 and we have lots of sweet little boutonnieres and corsages heading out the door this weekend.

Yes! We do that too! BUT…you gotta email me sooner than the day before 😅

Blooms that are made for wearing take a little extra time to prep to make sure they last through all that boogie-ing.

🌦️This weeks rain showers have been amazing for keeping the flowers nice and happy without us having to turn on our irrigation 🙌

💐But it also means I’m a bit behind since I’m harvesting blooms between rain storms. So I totally forgot to get a post up to let everyone know what’s happening this weekend!

•SATURDAY is Opening day for .farmersmarket ! So I’ll be there bright and early with fresh bouquets and flowers for all you on the south side of town. McClatchy park 3500 5th Ave from 9am-1.

•If you are a Rio Linda native (or want to take a gander out that way) you can also swing by the annual Veggie Plant sale for the Rio Linda Grange, an organization near and dear to my heart. We have a variety of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash and more all started by seed in 3-4” pots for $4 each. All proceeds help support the Grange and our community efforts as a non-profit. 1315 G st Rio Linda 9am- sell out.

Spring has just exploded with all the gorgeous flowers! The farm stand will be stocked Friday evening 4pm-dusk, and Saturday and Sunday 8am-dusk with pre-made bouquets in the $20-35 range. Cash, Venmo or PayPal at pick up.

If you’re feeling crafty and want to make your own arrangements you can get a whole bucket of blooms! I call them DIY buckets and they are perfect for a fun activity where everyone gets to take home some pretty blooms.

It’s the first day of spring here but things have already been “springing” for a month or more.

Winter was wet this year (yay rain!) but we didn’t get nearly enough cold days and it has all the perennials blooming about 4 weeks ahead of schedule. Yikes! 😳

Let’s keep our fingers crossed we get the temps back down otherwise these gorgeous babes won’t be here for very much longer.

Remember last week when I told you the only reason the Red Rose is so popular is because we tried to regulate the massive amounts of c❄️ke coming into the US during the “War on Drugs” era? Well part of the bigger problem is that pesticides, herbicide and other nasty toxins aren’t regulated in any capacity those South American countries. ☠️ You might think…”so what?
