Itās almost June and the berry patch has been producing strawberries everyday since May 12! Iāve been dreaming of having my own berry patch but was always weary of Japanese beetles, rabbits, bugs and other problems I had learned to associate with them. So far I think part of my success has been related to growing three different varieties, growing under thorny raspberries to deter adorable hopping berry robbers, mulching with straw in the winter to prevent crown rot/freeze damage/keep berries off the ground, and keeping the berries picked to avoid attracting bugs. No fertilizer, no sprays, but sporadic watering when it decides to stop raining. Maybe itās beginners luck? Honestly letās not question it too much, donāt want to jinx the berries.
