Nancy Bates is a Barkindji woman from the Far West of NSW, but living on Kaurna country. 2022 has been a huge year for Nancy, winning the Adelaide Fringe Bank SA Best Music Award, performing at Womadelaide, and finalist in the Australian Women in Music Humanitarian Award category in recognition of her passion for reaching women in prisons through song-writing and teaching ukulele. Bates completed her artistic apprenticeship between 2014-18 under the wings of Uncle Archie Roach spurring her on to becoming a powerful presence both on the stage, and within Aboriginal communities.
