Sa pagbaba ng telon sa napakaikling takbo ng Handog Musikal gusto kong balikan muli ang mga pangyayari upang mapasalamatan ko ang mga taong naging bahagi nito. Ito ang ani ng entablado. Ang komunidad na nabuo at nagtulungan upang magtagumpay. Ganyan ang salamin ng ideyal na lipunan, nagpupursigi upang maging ganap.

Sa kabila ng matrabahong technical night, hindi ako tumitigil sa backstage upang kausapin ang mga aktor at mga designer. Palaging hindi nasapat ang ekpektasyon ko sa entablado. Yun ay dahil iniisip ko, hindi pa puno ang salop. Wala pa syang laman. Mula dressing room one palipat-lipat sa komperensya. Paakyat sa control room at smoking area... hindi ko mahagilap ang tamang bilang. Ligaw ako. Gusto kong maranasan ang epipanya at makita ang sentral ng teksto. Salamat kay PJ Rebullida sa kanyang suporta sa mga panahong yaon.

At ganun na nga ang nangyari. Katulong si Barbie N. Dumlao at ang manunulat na si Jobelle Ramos sinalansan namin ang bubog at kiliti ni Gary Gomez. Salamat sa dalawang ito na nagtyagang makinig sa akin at magreply kahit madalas zero sense ang pinagsasasabi ko. Kalaghatian na ng rehearsal, na-read na ng cast ang play hindi pa kami resolve sa story arc. Ibig sabihin hindi pa rin pinal ang libretto. Gusto na sanang mataranta ni Barbie pero baliw direktor nya, nafinalize ang libretto October 13, 2023 - bisperas ng premiere.

Simulan natin sa wala

Lahat nanggaling sa zero bago magbilang. Halos isang taon na ang nakaraan nakatanggap ako ng tawag mula kay April Manuud na gusto nya daw akong mag-direk ng play. Walang gasinong proyekto kasi kae-exit pa lang ng pandemic. Kaya naniwala ako kahit sa loob-loob ko baka bluff lang sya. Pero bumayahe sya mula QC para makipag-meeting sa amin kaya sabi ko, pursigido ang Lola. Sa pagitan ng paghigop ng lomi sa isang restawran sa Lipa, kako anong materyal, sabi nya gagawin pa natin...

Direk Lui is the CEO and General Manager of LTN Events Incorporated, one of the leading events planning and management company in Batangas. He is also the Producing Artistic Director of Lipa Actors Company which is one of the leading community-based theater company in the country.

He works with national and international agencies in the performing arts which includes NCCA, CCP, Japan Foundation, Canada Arts Council to name few. He is currently an officer and the Head of the Theater Sector of the Batangas Culture and Arts Council.

He graduated at Batangas State University with a degree in Bachelor of Arts Major in Economics. He earned his post-graduate diploma in Management at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde and his Master in Business Administration from De La Salle Lipa.

His trainings include Musical Theater, Lighting Design, Dance and Stage Directing. He is the recipient of the 2009 CCP Arts Fellowship Program in Theater under the mentorship of the National Artist for Theater, Mr. Tony Mabesa.
