💜 Obligatory wedding day selfie.
No, not *my* tie-the-knot day!
The hungriest ceremony due to the Cadbury purple dresses, cake, & decor!
The couple chose a traditional style ceremony, with personal touches you simply can't have with a r*gistrar.
🍫 Sweet as!
💜 Congratulations Mr & Mrs P!

P.S. Bonus - I spotted one of last year's grooms afterwards 😀 Couldn't chat as he was working but I hope he knows I remember him (of course).
🌟 Shout-out! Super to be working with Your Moment Photography and KR Dazzling Decorations venue stylists too!
💙 Things are changing!
💙 This week I've already had a couple of direct bookings for funerals for September.
💙 That is, clients who know that they are the best person to choose their own funeral celebrant, who have searched online, contacted me directly for a chat, asking about my experience and availability, before booking me.
This is how it should be!
💙 Even after 6 and a half years, there are still local funeral directors I've sadly never been recommended by, as they use the same people every time, so if you want me as your celebrant, direct is the way to ensure you get me.
💙 It means heaps.
You know who you are - thank you!
Dx
P.S. Even if they didn't book me, it would make me happy - someone has chosen for themselves!
Presently, I get more direct work than via funeral director recommendation. Yes, this means I get fewer bookings, but I'm also not expected to lower my fees or standards to the level of unqualified copy-paste officiants!
(NO ONE should be churning out 5-10 McServices a week!)

🌿 Take a few moments to chill with me this lunchtime in the gardens... if you're not familiar with this piece, consider what images come to mind, before you read the lyric at video end.
🌿 Two different versions of this jazz standard were played in chapel this week - one instrumental, one vocal.
🌿 Sometimes it's important to hear the lyric; other times it may feel 'too much', or be 'leading', where music alone may allow more freedom of reflection. It's something to consider when choosing the song, style and version that feels right...

💜 I'm up for Celebrant of the Year 2024 in the North of England Wedding Awards!

I think that's around 20 couples eligible.

The North of England Wedding Awards
one of the biggest chains of nationwide funeral directors (Kate T was recently on Radio 4's The Bottom Line with their CEO) has produced a comprehensive report into funeral trends... But they seem to have forgotten something...
😮There is no mention of funeral celebrants!!
😮The report lists florists, vehicles, dress codes and music choices... But who is creating and delivering the service? Not a word on them!
😮They list alternative locations for funerals and celebrations of life and living celebrations....
😮Whilst you won't need a funeral director for a celebration of life or living funeral (there's no body) - you would be wise to have someone to structure, write, deliver and stage-managed the event, be that family member, faith leader or, of course, professional celebrant. ♥️
😮And remember you can book a celebrant directly (no need to go through a funeral director)
♥️Also, there are as many different types of celebrant as there are dead people...
♥️Coffin Club's amazing Celebrant-plus celebrants range from committed atheists, to interfaith, pagan, unspecified spiritual and beyond. We have celebrants with additional skills and qualifications such as end of life doulas or grief counsellors or who specialise in living funerals ♥️
♥️We actually feel really sad that celebrants, who are the heart of a funeral service and an important source of support for bereaved people, were, once again, entirely overlooked.😕
Come on, Co-op, could do better.
Shout out to amazing Lincolnshire celebrant for alerting us to this injustice!!

🐟 I’d not heard this local folk lore before – thank you to Amy of Grimsby Central Hall for sharing it with me, and taking me onto the roof to see over the rooftops to the Dock Tower.
🐟 The Fisherman's Chapel has long been a place of comfort and community, to pause and reflect, or say farewell to the fisherman of the town, or their families involved in the industry, which it is a net’s throw away from.
🐟 The chapel is bedecked with memorabilia and treasures from the port’s heritage, and there are plans to sympathetically rejuvenate and restore and bring the hall and chapel back to the centre of local life again.
🐟 It’s not only minister-led funerals or memorial services that may be held here; you may have a celebrant service too. The venue has many rooms to consider for other ceremonies, celebrations, gatherings and groups too.

Empower Her - Small Business & Wellness
‘Empower Her’, a small business and wellbeing event, was held last Sunday, July 28th, and was organised by Holly North and Vikki Taylor.
💜 It's exciting meeting couples to discover the vibe that will be the thread that runs through their tailored ceremony... traditional & thoughtful, smushy & smoochy, bold & badass, funny & free and easy. The delight at finding out it's really is *nothing* like a registrar stranger with a rigid script (unless that's what you'd like - but way better)!
💜 Heartfelt appreciation & laid-back laughs are just the ticket for L&C. Looking forward to seeing their, and their guests, faces at this one!

💀 'F*CK, I'M DEAD!'
💀 Last week, I sat making funeral plans with a client - young, vibrant, and in rude health - and planning ahead for their own service, so that when the bell tolls, bish bash bosh, everything's sorted.
💀 They'd spotted the sweary planner.
There's a few books on the market now to fill in, or you can download a simple guide online, or complete a pack supplied by your celebrant or funeral director.
💀 Heaps of ways to do it.
Pop it on your bucket list.

💖 Sparkly love to everyone who has followed, reacted, commented, shared a post, added a review, or invited a friend to follow (I'd love to get to 1000 followers - will you tag/invite 3 friends before you scroll on?🤞).
💖 It makes a *huge* difference to my little business. Often bookings come from people who stumbled on my page because a friend liked a post and it appeared in their feed. Many had never heard of celebrants, or if they had, didn't realise they could choose their own. It so makes my day! Ta v much!

🌿 An excerpt from a poem about the loss of a spouse from the 7th Century Japanese poet Kakinomoto Hitomoro.

I pass the daylight lonely till the dusk,
the black night sighing till the dawn.
I grieve and grieve and know no remedy.
I ache and know no road where I might meet her.

Personal Post
Another day, another hospital visit.
I've held off saying anything for months, but to ease my stress levels a little and put waiting couples in the picture, I will.
Drafts have been taking much longer this season, due to family health and my own.
On days like today, where I've promised a draft, I've had to drop work at the last minute for pressing issues, as I had to this Monday too.
I know some of you had a few months wait for wedding drafts, and there's still some outstanding, which I've been writing in strict ceremony order. It's not a quick process - I really love creating the ceremony that is right for you.
I'm almost there, and all expected drafts should arrive before month end, so thank you for your patience & understanding.

Positive edit: A woman was giving birth in the car park, attended to by the staff. Hope all went well. What an entrance to the world!
🍳 Legal quickie at 9am - then a fry up!
🍳 That’s what one of my couples is doing this week. A proper Wedding Breakfast!
🍳 The term comes from when couples would observe a fast before the (faith) ceremony, then their first meal together to break the fast would be their wedding breakfast.
🍳 Now it’s the main meal served at a wedding after the ceremony, irrespective of time.
🍳 But I love the idea of going for an meal together after popping to the register office. What would you have for a literal wedding breakfast?
Dx
P.S. You've still got time to snag a cooked breakfast... Hold the sausage; mine's the veggie brekkie at The Jug & Bottle please! 😋

REGISTRARS ARE NOT CELEBRANTS. If you are misled, pressured to not have an independent or humanist celebrant-led wedding, or it is made difficult for you to access a 2x2 statutory marriage ceremony, please write to your local council, or post it on their socials. This is unacceptable. Posted @withregram • @thecelebrantmentor I cannot believe what I've just read. One of my couples has sent us emails that have just blown the lid off of what the registration service is trying to do They should be ashamed of themselves. My couples are being harassed, sent confusing information, being misled and misguided by lies, and to be quite frank, I've had enough of it. I'm calling bullsh*t. It has to stop. Several of my couples have been to sign their paperwork and been grilled to the point of them leaving upset, in tears and with bad memories of this milestone event. This is happening across many counties too. A registrar is a registrar. They complete the two legal aspects of a marriage. They are NOT independent celebrants. I'm whistle-blowing because somebody has to. Share if you can.

☔️ Love weathers many storms; a little rain on your special day is a blessing; refreshing and nourishing your love. ☔️ What a warm and joyous celebration today - the family gathered in a lucky horseshoe shape to see the renewal of vows of C&L. ☔ The children were invited to hold a ribbon throughout the ceremony and imbue it with their best wishes - these were then used in the hand fasting. ☔ A beautiful surprise also for two guests who were invited to sign to the music. ☔ The ceremony concluded with a champagne toast and a song chosen for family unity. 💛 So utterly romantic! This gorgeous first dance of Sophia & Stijn was choreo'd by the amazing Ali. I was overjoyed to lead the ceremony earlier. A true love story across the waters that was always meant to be... Posted with @DittoRepost #dittorepost • @ourfirstdance247 Well what can I say about this wonderful couple? I met @sophia_nous_tattoo when she visited @bridalrelovedcaistor to find her wedding dress. She had seen it on my socials and had a vision of what she wanted. She tried it and sure enough it was a perfect fit! We talked about our shared love for Labyrinth and the scene where Sarah dances with the goblin king. We wanted to recreate the magic for her and Stijn’s first dance. They attended one group lesson and then decided they would like a bespoke routine for their wedding day. The routine was choreographed and taught in one hour and then they went away to practice before having a half hour refresher two days before the wedding. I can’t wait to share the edited version of their rehearsals which include CCTV videos of them practicing at their tattoo studio @indigomoontattoo I’m sure you’ll agree that they looked absolutely and completely in love and nailed it! Not only that, I was honoured to be invited to attend the reception and see it for myself, you can see my proud little face in the background! ❤️🤍Ancient traditions for modern couples... ❤️🤍As couples look for a ceremony with greater depth and meaning, personal to them, that connects them to nature and the elements, they have found themselves drawn to hand fasting ceremonies; always there as a sacred rite within pagan traditions. ❤️🤍I’ve offered individual symbolic acts within weddings and vow renewals for some time now, including various types of hand tying, candle lighting, besom jumps, and the sharing of a loving cup. ❤️🤍As it's the spring equinox, it's the perfect day to announce I’m now offering full hand fasting ceremonies. They may incorporate these symbolic acts, and/or other acts, such as hoop and wand, and cake and ale. ❤️🤍The difference between a hand tying ritual and a hand fasting ceremony? The binding of hands is one part of the complete ceremony. Within the circle, the elements, air, fire, water and earth, are addressed in turn at their cardinal point. At each, beautiful words, symbolic actions, and the involvement of their beloveds to bring the couple closer together. And all of this unscripted, to be fully present, natural and relaxed in the magic of the moment. ❤️🤍Whether you follow a pagan or spiritual path, or none, and yet feel drawn to an alternative ceremony for your wedding or vow renewal, handfasting may be for you. Message when you’d like find out more. 🐸Happy Leap Day! 🐸Also known as Ladies Privilege or Bachelor's day, because, so the Irish legend goes, women are 'allowed' (*side eye*) to propose marriage after St Brigid complained to St Patrick that -men- were too slow to pop the question, so he said women could take this day to redress the balance. 🐸It seems he was a bit slow on the uptake (helloo, big hint missed there), as St B swiftly proposed to Pat... and was turned down! Oof! Other sources say she was only a nipper so that's for the best... 🐸Anyway, whether you're taking that leap yourself, or celebrating your birthday, or a new arrival on this rare day (did you know babies born today are leaplings? *Wow* react if you just learned that), have a super day! Dx P.S. Getting engaged or married on leap day... a jump the broomstick ceremony would be awesome. 10% DISCOUNT - Quote #BookYourOwnCelebrant when you ENQUIRE DIRECT There’s only *one* chance to get a funeral right: don’t risk leaving the choice of celebrant for your loved one to chance.
If a member of the clergy isn’t for you, then you need a professional, qualified, and experienced funeral celebrant. Not all celebrants are the same - and no two funeral ceremonies ever should be. I conduct beautiful, bespoke ceremonies, designed to leave you with warm and special memories of a fond and fitting farewell.
All ceremony types are offered - light-religious or secular, traditional or alternative; and you’ll be guided through choices for all aspects of the ceremony - music, poems, readings, ritual, and the type of farewell that will be appropriate: it is always written especially and uniquely for you. You’ll receive my personal attention, advice and support right from first contact. After the ceremony, I’ll still be there for you to check everything is all right. You’ll be presented with a lovely complimentary keepsake pack to treasure always; my gift to you to help remember the comforting memories, and to pass on to future generations.
It will contain a ribbon-tied printed tribute (eulogy), and some memorial items to treasure, including wildflower seed favours to plant in loving memory, plus a little something special - handmade just for you.
I’m the only celebrant in North East Lincs to be trained in, and to have achieved ‘full accreditation’ status in authentic humanist (secular) funeral ceremonies, awarded after over a year of training and time served as a working probationer (as a former member of Humanist Ceremonies network). It’s considered their ‘gold standard’ in celebrancy.
My former profession was as a psychologist and life coach. I hold both Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Psychology. I’m currently studying for qualifications in grief/bereavement counselling.
You know you will be in the safest of hands, treated with kindness and empathy, and your ceremony will be truly custom - as unique as your loved one.
I’m qualified, insured, and DBS checked for your peace of mind. I support the Celebrant Accord for raising standards of excellence. I have been nominated by both families and funeral directors in the National Celebrant Awards. I pride myself on offering the very best, and most truly personalised, service in the area. If you think you’d like me to conduct a ceremony for you - feel free to contact me for a chat or to ask questions online. I can help if you’d like a funeral service (cremation or burial), a memorial ‘celebration of life’ at a later date at a time and location of your choosing, to help you pre-plan your own or another’s ceremony, or to conduct a special occasion,. There’s no obligation, ever. Advice and guidance is free. If I can’t help, I may be able to suggest someone or sources of help which can. You can engage my services either directly, or via a funeral director - just tell them your wish is for me lead the ceremony for you, and they’ll sort the rest. If possible, contact me before you have the arrangement meeting with your funeral director/arranger. If you are told I'm unavailable by them, please get in touch straight away to double check this. I’ll always help if I can.
As each ceremony is bespoke, I create and lead only a few services a week. I do not deliver multiple, cheap, no-frills, ‘insert-name-here’ cut-and-paste ‘production-line script’ services each week or even day! I believe everyone deserves a proper farewell ceremony, delivered by a trained celebrant.
My fees are fairly set: in line with published standard clergy charges for funerals, and excellent value for all that is included.
I’m pleased to offer a 10 % discount for booking direct* with me, rather than via a funeral director. Just email or message me first, and check I’m available on your preferred day and time.
I also offer other services, such as a ‘life celebrant’ service - capturing treasured memories of the living to be given as a gift to the family, or for leading a special event like a birthday or anniversary. Also keepsake packs and little mementoes - more details will appear on my website.
You can read testimonials on the Community and Recommendations tabs on this page, and also on my website: take a browse and you’ll see what a difference a truly custom ceremony makes.
https://dawnkempcelebrant.com/testimonials.html I’m here to help, and answer any questions you have: do get in touch. Dawn x

Applies only to adult ‘at need’ funerals taking place within North East Lincolnshire; this may be at any location there, and with your funeral director of choice. Fee may be paid direct or via the funeral home, in full and in advance of the service day. Exclusions: memorials, pre-planning services, special occasions, goods (e.g. additional keepsake packs and memorial gifts), and services taking place outside of North East Lincolnshire. To avoid disappointment, contact me as soon as possible via email, message, or telephone. Code valid throughout 2020.
