It’s August, so where indeed are the dahlias?
They’re trickling in but I’ve been thinking (worrying) about them all season.
While I did a good job digging them up at the appropriate time last fall, I had poor storage over the winter (a change in household routine made my spot too hot).
I was fortunate enough to catch some amazing tuber options from Paige at Once Upon a Flower Farm to replace my saddest ones. The cold start to spring, bouts of high temperatures and virtually no precipitation hasn’t been great though.
Hoping for an extended fall to enjoy these queens of the summer.

I’ve spent some time these last few years trying to convince people that certain flowers really are beautiful in a bouquet. Case in point these carnation dianthus.
I let my first plants dwindle because of lack of enthusiasm from customers. I’m trying again though because the spicy- sweet scent is sooo good (think scented Stock).
See you at the Kimberley farmer’s market this evening and the Cranbrook farmers market Saturday. Maybe I’ll have a new favourite flower for you.

Sometimes you just need that special something to help you beat the mid summer fatigue. Hydrangea was that thing today inspiring today’s wedding bouquet and tomorrow’s market flowers.
Can’t wait for these wee year old shrubs to really start producing. There will be enough blooms to kick all the exhaustion of the season.

Flower drops at the Bellwether are on hold until cooler weather arrives.
Orders and pick up subscriptions will be at the farm also until further notice.
Man o man I’m grateful to myself for installing that walk-in cooler.
Local farmer’s markets are still a go. I’m thankful for all of those who find my flowers wherever they roam.

Scant and no pictures of the two weddings last weekend as the heat kept the flowers in the cooler as much as possible.

I will be missing the local farmer’s markets this week (last time this season unless I’m sick)

The summer flowers are here in all their sweet summer glory.
I have some events to flower so will be absent from the Kimberley farmer’s market and Cranbrook farmer’s market this week. Bouquets at the Bellwether are also on hold so I can give my full attention to these important occasions.
Summer is just getting started and we’ll be back before you know it.
