To honor the life and legacy of one of the greatest musicians of our time, the late Ustad Zakir Hussain, The Music Circle presents Hussain's collaborators Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin and Anantha R. Krishnan on mridangam. Zakir Hussain had a long history with The Music Circle, having performed 48 shows together starting in 1973, many with our founder Pt. Ravi Shankar. This concert is a homage and continuation of his legacy carried forth by his students and colleagues.

The Music Circle is proud to announce the first concert of our 2025 spring season! Join us on March 1 for Ras - Raga and Rhythm, a memorial concert in honor of Zakir Hussain.

This concert presentation focuses on the evolution of modern day Indian music in both Carnatic and Hindustani styles. In the great improvisational traditions of music, one can see a resemblance between the Indian Music Traditions and Jazz. Both traditions involve fixed compositions, standards and artistic innovation which fuels the evolution of the music.

Featuring Ganesh Rajagopalan (violin) and Anantha R. Krishnan (mridangam).
