Tessa Young has carved out a niche for herself as both a DJ and an agent. She launched her career behind the decks over a decade ago and has played numerous venues, private parties, weddings, and corporate events. Recent notable events are United Nations Global Compact, , Taste of the , Upfront Summit and City of Hope.

Launched in 2015, is a Los Angeles-based collective and booking agency representing an eclectic roster of dynamic women DJs. PRISM DJs' mission is to create a supportive network for women DJs and advocate for gender equality in the music industry. With a network of over 30 women, the agency provides soundtracks for various celebrations including weddings and corporate events.

PRISM DJs are committed to uplifting the next generation of women DJs. Their team has provided scholarships for teenage girls to attend Camp Spinoff. Tessa will soon be launching “PRISM 4 DJs”, an Instagram & Youtube community where she will be sharing business tips for aspiring DJs.

I started in 2015 for two reasons:
1) I sincerely wanted to see more women DJs working.
2) Clients wanted to book women DJs; they just didn't know where to find them.

We started with 4 women DJs and have since worked with over 30 women DJs for corporate, private, and wedding events.

When the pandemic hit, we lost all our work opportunities. So, we pivoted to live streaming. But the production costs were too high, so potential clients moved in other directions. I considered closing the business. I went back to paralegal work temporarily. Even with all these setbacks and challenges, I didn't give up.

I worked harder than ever, unpaid, supporting live streams, handling the day-to-day operations, rescheduling/canceling events, issuing/negotiating refunds, plus more. I understand that all business owners struggled during the high peaks of the pandemic, and like many, it was tough on my mental state to think that everything I worked so hard for could be gone.

Early this year, PRISM was fortunate to receive a federal grant to keep us afloat. In all these years, I have been running the admin and management for PRISM on my own, and it was a blessing to be able to hire Ruthie from , who literally changed everything. We were able to better communicate our mission of supporting women DJs, apply for more grants, update the website, and so much more.

I am grateful to everyone that has supported PRISM through all this—especially the PRISM DJs team for their understanding and support through these still challenging times. Thank you to our clients, friends who donated to our charitable live streams, those who lent an ear, Ruthie from , copywriter Jordan Peden, and Chad and Chris from .

With our team's collective help and hard work, we've now won two private company grants! The first grant was from I Fund Women & Jane Walker. And 🥁🥁🥁 , I am now proud to announce that PRISM DJs has also won the AAPISTRONG Proudly Unstoppable Grant from .ace! THANK YOU NATIONAL ACE!

We are excited to keep PRISM moving forward with this funding into 2022 and looking forward to returning stronger than ever!

🏡 Loving real estate company Douglas Elliman’s new tagline “ ” underscoring their commitment to finding every customer their personal, unique sense of home. I was so honored to be the DJ for their retreat in West Palm Beach, Florida. Thank you & for having me!

💫 The event and pitch contests were so inspiring and right up my alley of interest. Fun fact. I’m taking my real estate exam next month. Killing time during the pandemic, I was able to complete pre-licensing courses. Maybe real estate will be my new side hustle and I’ll work for Douglas Elliman someday! 😜

🎊I am excited to share that PRISM DJs has been selected for the Jane Walker • IFundWomen First Women Grant Program. Through this program, & Jane Walker () are supporting groundbreaking women entrepreneurs with the help of legendary women icons who were firsts in their industries. I'm beyond proud for our team to be recognized. The funding and coaching resources we have received will significantly impact PRISM DJs' journey towards becoming a monumental first. 💗One of the best parts of my job is that I am surrounded by incredible women to celebrate, and Prism DJs takes every opportunity to do just that. Women’s Entrepreneurship Day gives us another reason to lift the ladies who rock this business.

👩🏻‍💼Prism DJs is proud to observe Women’s Entrepreneurship Day by honoring women DJs as entrepreneurs- because being a DJ is a business! Being a DJ is so much more than mixing music and performing. Behind the scenes, DJs wear many hats and perform many functions. We have to develop ourselves as an business entity, get a business license and insurance. We are our own administrators and marketers, which means we’re responsible for handling our own inquiries, client communication, invoicing, graphic design, music libraries, and maintaining a good reputation. And this all happens in the midst of us performing regularly at the events. Women DJs often feel like we are in this business alone, and we often have a lot further to climb to reach success. That’s why it’s so important for women DJs to feel supported and celebrated by a strong community that recognizes our contributions, efforts, achievements, and even sacrifices. Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is for us, my fellow women DJs!

☺️ Made a getaway to Sedona this last weekend with the gal pals and doggos. I sure needed it after being non-stop for the last couple months.

🌄 We went on a couple mini hikes to Bell Rock and Airport Mesa. Visited the Center for New Age for a reading, got another reading off the street, and then an aura photo at Sacred Elements. So much fun and such a beautiful unique place!

🔮 Both readings mentioned that I am in for new career beginnings, and I can’t wait to see how that unfolds. Actually, I have some exciting news to share next week that may be contributing to these “new beginnings”! Make sure to stay tuned for the journey.

⭐️My aura photo was yellow – creative, easy going, intellectual, philosophical, optimistic. I can agree with those!
