If you're in striking distance of Market Harborough in Leicestershire there is a SAGA Ironman tournament on Saturday 16th September The Ironman is a very different format in that I supply all the warbands, sticks, terrain. You just need to bring a warlike attitude. yoiu will use three different warbands in a day against three different opponenents. No difficult scenarios just cumulative kill points. we will gathering at 9.30 for a 10 am start. Cost is £5- all proceeds to local charitity. The venue is The Kings Hall, 5 Kings Raod Market Harborough. LE167JU with a car park right next door. Message me for more info or just post on this thread to reserve a place

First outing for the Classical Indian warband ably marshalled by Mark Sheppard ( son in law). I was fielding Seleucid Successors. Both sides had an elephant who did end up trunk to trunk but both Nellies survived the encounter.

The Indian warlord fights on a heavy chariot. 12 dice if you're the attacker in melee plus two automatic hits but only 4 attacks when defending. I did my best to kill him, hitting him with hearthguard pikemen, warrior pikes, hearthguard cataphracts and even my warlord. Mark's saving throws kept him in the game

The inevitable 12 dice counter attack saw 7 hits get through on my exhausted warlord ( the next unsaved hit would do for him). I saved one, two, three, four, five ,six ..... could he survive.....no! Save number seven failed.

My elephant succumbed to multiple missile hits but killed three men from three separate enemy units in its death throes. I tried to return the favour but Mark " call me Mr Six" saved all three potential fatal shots .

By now my granddaughter had woken up from her nap and joined in the battle. This saw reinforcement in the shape of " Bun Bun" who stared down my deceased elephant.

I ended up rolling only two Saga dice in the last turn, Mark still had four dice. Final score 28-26 to the Indians .

I've played Mark at Saga, Bolt Action, TTS and have yet to win!!!!

Exciting news. Saga Ironman will be running alongside the Saga Grand Melee this year. There will be two days of play but you can take part on either day if you can't make the whole weekend.

Day one will feature warbands from the Age of Alexander and the Age of Hannibal so lots of pikes, elephants and arrow showers.

Day two will feature the Age of Crusades with the much loved factions supported by mercenaries and legendary units.

It would be great to see some familiar faces and some new ones!

Ironman 2023????.

Due to the arrival last year of our first granddaughter I'll be doing fewer tournaments this year. As the cost of subsidising them has increased significantly, I need to ensure that any tournament has a minimum of ten players.

Just to remind you, I bring all the armies, dice, scenery etc. All you have to do is turn up and enjoy. Whether you're a club or a shop all I need are the players. I'd recommend that you charge a reasonable entry fee as some of the more sparsely attended events last year were those where there was no fee and people dropped out at the last moment.

I look forward to seeing old friends and making some new ones. Just message me and let's get the ball rolling.

Just a reminder of how an Ironman works

If you're keeping a beady eye on the page for the next SAGA Iron Man apologies for lack of updates. We are waiting with great excitement for the arrival of our first grandchild so I can't commit to being away from home for the next few weeks.

That said I will be doing demos of some of the new "Age of Invasions" warbands at the Beachhead ( Bournemouth) and Hammerhead (Newark) shows in the near future.

From March onwards I'll be free to arrange new tournaments. Just as a reminder I'm free of charge for clubs or shops or even clubs that meet in shops. I bring EVERYTHING you need, warbands, dice, measures, terrain, prizes. All I need is table space and coffee! This comes courtesy of the lovely chaps at Gripping Beast. You are free to charge whatever few you would normally ask for a tournament.

I try to bring a variation of warbands and if there are particular warbands you'd like to try I can bring a bespoke loadout to your tournament. I need a minimum of six players and can accommodate a maximum of fourteen.

The format is very simple. You use three different warbands in the day. Victory comes through kill points which are cumulative over your three games. No tricky scenarios.

This format is ideal for players new to the game and over eight years of tournaments complete newbies have often won the whole day.

Excellent day at the National Film and Television College. A compact Iron Man that featured some very new warbands. All proceeds went to The Red Cross working in the Ukraine.

Just a reminder about the Saga Ironman tournament in conjunction with the Wycombe Warband at the National Film & Television School in Beaconsfield, HP9 1LG. On Saturday 13th August. 9am for a 9.30 start.

There is no charge but we will be raising money for the Red Cross in Ukraine, suggested donation £5 ( collected on the day) .

As usual I bring all the warbands, this time a selection from Age of Invasions and the Age of Hannibal.
