AMBIENT HEADQUARTERS LINEUP

We've curated an eclectic journey through sound and knowledge, where unusual genres are spotlighted at peak times. Instruments, synths, experimental & original music will be common in Ambient HQ.
The AHQ team want to provide an intermediate level of stimulation, allowing you to flow with the rest of the event but still offering you a chance to recalibrate.
The overall intention of the lineup is to create a unique environment, exploring odd and unusual realms.
We begin with mystical acoustics, gently transitioning into rythmic obsqurities. On Saturday night the voice is the main character digressing into sound journeys on Sunday to close the space.
This is a community collaboration to craft an intimate atmosphere with cinematic music and art.

There is something for everyone at Ambient HQ. Come through and expand your reality this year at Synchronicity 2024.

SECOND STAGE ANNOUNCEMENT!

⚠️LINE UP DROPS TOMORROW⚠️

In a realm far far away (approx. 30 metres south east from the main stage) Ambient Headquarters was invoked to blend the digital with the mystical. Here, contrast reigns supreme. Ambient HQ is an equal opposite of the main stage, defying its spotlights, hype, and high-octane stimulation.

The very existence of Ambient HQ shatters the notion of genre conformities and restrictions surrounding creative expression. As a space encouraging innovative music that pushes the boundaries, all the artists have full creative freedom to present their most original and groundbreaking sonics. This is a journey crafted through ambient, experimental, and leftfield music.

Not only does this space share sonic soundscapes, it serves as an educational platform, proud to co-create with teachers who will be sharing re-emerging wisdom during the lunch break portal.

Committed to providing immaculate and high quality sound, Prescription Audio, a handbuilt precision HIFI Sound System, will be providing the sound reinforcements.

If you revel in low lighting, comfort on the dancefloor, and the newest sounds coming out of the underground, come & immerse your atoms in the Ambient Headquarters.

CASUAL HEALING

Nikau Te Huki is a unique composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Pōneke, Aotearoa - and his soulful solo project goes by the name
of Casual Healing.
For over six years, Nikau has significantly influenced the music scene in Wellington. Establishing a vibrant hub for indigenous Roots, Rock, and Reggae through his band H4LF CĀST. Notable performances have taken place
at Gardens Magic, Tora Bombora, Nest Fest, and Twisted Frequency.
There’s something curious about this young Maori-Italian maestro. He holds a charming crooked smile and often appears in elaborate wardrobe, with an old nylon guitar over his shoulder looking like Elvis Marley, weaving a symphony of Roots, RnB, Reggae, Neo-soul, Indie, folklore and Rock. The entire Casual Healing discography has been produced by Nikau in his home studio, Te Whare CHuR. Thus we begin to explore the many talents of this man.
Casual Healing understands the power of music. As a true sonic
missionary, Nikau is creating a soothing “golden-era sound” as part of his mission to heal with his music. Te Huki is a natural storyteller who inspires the listener by sharing his perspective of life through an authentic and relatable lens, drawing from a palette of raw emotions and painting a canvas woven from the tapestry of his unique life.
The songs of Casual Healing emphasise life lessons of aroha, peace and unity through powerful lyrical scribe woven into smooth reggae, soul rhythm. This infusion creates a unique nostalgic vibe, creating a captivating and comforting essence that evokes recollections of moments shared with friends and whānau. Casual Healing's goal is to create songs that “make people feel like they want to be better people”, drawing inspiration from Bob Marley, who showed us the power of compassion and simplicity.

The kaupapa of Synchronicity is very much aligned a lot of the lyrics of Casual Healing, as fate would have it we are blessed with the opportunity to amplify these frequencies together, so lets get together and feel alright!

Moving on to the live bands Sunday session.

STRANGELY AROUSING

Emerging from an era in which Fat Freddy's Drop and Red Hot Chilli Peppers are considered heritage artists and humans are no longer boxed by sexuality or gender, one might describe Strangely Arousing as "Trans-genre' and rightfully so.
Dub, Psych-rock, Reggae, Trip-Hop, Ompa it's all in the mix and more, with an aim to one-up themselves every time, whether with their live sets or self-made
releases, Strangely are an eclectic power-house of live performance meets exponential growth and quality
For over a decade now Strangely have been raising the bar for what it means to be amongst the music industry. Self-funded tours, Albums, Eps, international travel, a budding young production company. These critters are hitting it from every angle as to build their careers around the continuous, joyful journey of a life with music and audio exploration as their waka!

We are 2 and a half months away from kick off and tickets are flying out the digital door!

TOM COSM

The unicorn / grandmaster wizard himself.. TOM COSM will be at the helm of the spaceship control panel on the main stage at Synchronicity 2024!
This mythical beast really needs no introduction but his journey with sound and frequency is one worth telling!
Tom has revolutionised the algorithms behind making electronic music and has encouraged other artists in Aotearoa to see the world in terms of frequency. Heart monitors, breathing apparatus and brain wave monitors are hooked up to a willing participant and the data analysed from their bodies creates sound!

MOKOMOKAI

Mokomokai is an experimental Hip-Hop group consisting of three artists who are currently making massive waves in the Auckland Hip- Hop scene and through out Aotearoa. Frontman, Dirty (Eno x Dirty), Co-Producer, Dusty (The Grow Room) and Co-Producer Ghos. Rooted firmly in Te Ao Māori, their experiences and upbringing are part of their slowly evolving sound. Collaboratively, these artists have individually worked alongside artists such as Tom Scott, Melodownz, Troy Kingi and many more. Their musical profiles as individual artists are extensive and they have also collaborated with international artists.
Since their inception, they have released a self-titled EP under the moniker Mokomokai, which has been received highly from listeners of the genre. Recently, they have played multiple shows, with the latest being Elemental Nights in which they played as the support act for Diggy Dupe and The Panthers at the prestigious Auckland Town Hall.
Dedicated to all the indigenous people of Aotearoa with a strong kaupapa of decolonisation carried throughout the project, their 7-track collection is tied together with an ambient intro and outro, fluttering with organic samples of native birds and nature atop subtle chords and 808's, and setting the tone of the culturally-rooted record.
MOKOMOKAI is a raw, potent project honouring Māori culture, reclaiming stolen identity, land, and language, and observing our socio-political climate from a blunt yet lighthearted lens.
In producer Dusty's words, "The project is a true reflection and living product of colonialism against an indigenous people. We dedicate this body of work to all the indigenous cultures around the world who have been affected by colonization and as a result, have lost land, language, culture and identity.
Commonly known as Mokomokai, or Toi Moko - was the post-colonial trade of heads for goods and services between Māori and European settlers. This practice was heavily active in the northern tribal regions but also has connections and history to other tribes around the country.
This project was produced and written by three Māori descendants all with strong ties to the far north. Dirty, Dusty & Ghos. We thought it would be fitting to use the artwork which is a well-known photo of Horatio Robley posing with toi moko. For obvious reasons, it represents the effects of colonisation and how it has filtered down throughout the years and moulded us into who we are today."
We have made a couple switch ups in the line up to make absolute sure we can get these fullas down to play Sync this year! The content from Mokomokai is raw, powerful and definitely has the ability to stir up social and cultural movements! Expect to feel inspired to push for change or investigate deeper into your own whakapapa as their poetic justice blasts through the main stage!

Introducing Synchronicity 2024 main stage designer...

BIIG TREE

This year we are making big shifts to further solidify the kaupapa that is deeply embedded in how we gather at Synchronicity.
The main stage design will be playing an integral role in signifying our journey towards more sustainable ways of coming together and representing our connection to the natural world around us.

Biig Tree will be designing our permanent main stage build based around the concept of a waharoa / gate way. The different parts of the structure represent our connection to the land beneath our feet, connection to broader community, our ability to be accountable of self, our role in caring for others, the ability to express and create freely and our duty as kaitiaki and temporary occupants of the land.

If you are lucky we might give you a sneak peak on our design before kick off! Watch this space!

Psy Care have opened up a give a little page!

This amazing team of humans have done so much for the music/arts communities to create safer gatherings and cover more aspects of hauora/well being at festivals!

I hear there might also be fundraiser events on the horizon for our care teams!

Psy-Care NZ Inc. is an entirely volunteer run organisation, operating on-site at events and festivals around Te Wai Pounamu.
