SWIPE ↔️ 🇸🇳 Referred to by locals as "car rapides," meaning 'fast car,' the Senegalese buses were originally made by French carmaker Renault and brought over for use in 1976. They're often painted with slogans and images of Sufi holy men, animals and trees. Seats are cramped but the vibe is everything 🙏🏼😍

Calling people illegal is not only factually inaccurate, it’s politically and journalistically irresponsible. Using dehumanizing language makes it easier for people to justify dangerous policies against a particularly group.

I once read an article where a professor said “We don’t call people who cross in the middle of the road illegal pedestrians. A kid who skips school to go to Disneyland is not an illegal student. I favor the use of ‘undocumented’ as an alternative, Or just plain and simple: immigrant.

Language shapes people’s perceptions. Discriminatory language in reference to undocumented migrants leads to perceptions and actions which negatively impact the daily realities of undocumented migrants.

I work in refugee centers and we are having many Afghans coming in lately due to the crisis 🇦🇫 Trust me when I tell you that none of these people wanted to leave their country (like most refugees). When I talk to them, many are traumatized, but still very courageous to start a new life and learn a new language, which makes me able to communicate with them, for which I’m grateful 🙏🏼 Once again, this has been a proof how geopolitics can fail enormously...

Find me at these events during the end of the summer 😍 Let’s hope for some nice weather 🙏🏼
