Before spiced pumpkin everything takes over our lives (as if it hasn't already) I'm reflecting on summer days filled with loads of flowers and clipped hedges 💚

Autumn always brings me into a state of sentimentalism, and sometimes it's hard to shake. I've been writing and working on the book a lot these last few weeks, so my garden has been neglected. But one of the things I'm talking about in is how a garden--and the whole of nature--always reminds us of time and it's passing. The rhythm in nature is unerring and never stops, reminding us of time and it's passing. Especially true in the autumn garden, where leaves are falling, roses are hipping, and grapevines are loaded down. I do love the autumn season in the garden, with it's shifting of light to a soft glow, for certain. But, my heart just doesn't want to let go of the summer garden in all it's glory.

If there's one plant in my garden that never ceases, and I do mean that I have had this very plant and her many, many daughters in various growth and bloom stages for over 20 years now, it would be this one--Dianthus barbatus ‘Sooty’, commonly known as Sweet William. This plant grows as a self-seeding biannual in my garden, and I love it's cottage garden charm, it's saturated deep hued color, and really, now that I'm thinking of it, what I love most is it's vigor under any circumstances. There she is, every. year, just like clockwork!

In the language of flowers, dianthus, or Sweet William represents affection, boldness, childhood, classic love flower, gallantry, love, pure affection...and even more!

Details....

When planning your wedding or other event, don't fret the details. When you hire a pro (hint, hint) there are SO many things to think about.
There are many options when choosing an event florist, BUT, are they working and sourcing sustainably? Locally? I am proud to say that me (and my team) have a long history of sustainable floristry. We did it way back when no one ever really thought about it...except for us.

Keep sustainability AND beauty in the forefront when you're planning your next event. And of course, contact me for all your floral decor needs.

We are in the middle of a severe heat wave here in California, and my garden is NOT happy. But these chrysanthemums! Even in the extreme heat, they are truly work horses in the garden and vase too, where here I've gathered them up (more like rescued! 🥵) from the garden and dropped into a vase.

Chrysanthemums are a perfect en masse gifting flower, because there are a multitude of meanings in the language of flowers, and their primary meanings are enough to bring a smile, uplift spirits, and just make someone's day.

to that beautiful day in the garden, shooting a feature for . What a monumental day in my life! I am looking back with such gratitude that this took place. My heart was full then, and it still is! What a dream come true, to be in a place with such amazing women, and such an engaging audience. I have built a beautiful clientele through many years of collaborations such as this, and that is remarkable and so cherished by me.

A Cherished Love Posy~ for me!

The past few weeks have presented a multitude of challenges for me--personal health, loved ones passing, and my cherished little frenchie-girl Violet is trying to recover from a life-threatening illness. Although she's pulling through slowly, she's still not well and not able to come home from hospital just yet. So, if you pray, please send one up for her. And if you meditate, please let her health and well-being take a position in your thoughts. I would appreciate that.

I don't usually share with you much on personal issues & struggles here, and honestly, right now I don't have not much left in me right now other than worry and bewilderment. But then while sorting through my pictures of flowers, gardens, posies...this posy popped up. I cannot think of a more perfect posy for ME right now. So I'm letting all these messages sink in from the flowers. And I also take solace in this beautiful quote by by my favorite, Rumi~

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”

So, I'm dancing over here, and also watering the plants (another comforting distraction of mine).
xoxo

It's time to think about gifts for the upcoming season, and I think this one should be at the top of your list to buy for a flower and garden lover. A book of pure, glorious floral pageantry, The Art of Flowers, from the editors features three-part sections offering insights and stories of flowers and women's stories behind them, including my own. It honored me to be featured in this book, and in such good company, and besides, that's my beautiful posy on the cover!
Packed with page after page of bountiful blooms, it is an inspiring glimpse into gardening, the women who cultivate, arrange, photograph, paint, and harbor our most treasured part of nature, its flowers. It also has helpful arranging and growing tips, as well as many resources.
The Art of Flowers is a treasure and a memorable gift, especially if you couple it with a !
