We have been having so much fun with this show, and our audiences have been loving this unique evening of music. Tonight is the last chance you will have to come and hear the magical Dot’s Symphony by Matt Cross Makes Music and many other exciting works by other local composers, of which the majority are female identifying composers.

There are ticket costs to suit all budgets so please don’t stay home, come and hear this very special evening of original music in our last show for the year.

Living in Newcastle NSW, Matt Cross is a multi-instrumentalist with a strong passion for live performance, and songwriting. He started piano lessons from an early age, and later gravitated towards guitar. Tearing through the albums of AC/DC and Bon Jovi, it wasn’t until the high school band needed a pianist for a performance of Cold Chisel’s “Khe Sanh” (a song that Matt now dreads when it is requested). It was at this point that Matt found his home on the keyboard.
As Matt matured as a musician, he found joy in songwriting and composition. His debut album “Take Your Time” demonstrates this, creating luscious soundscape textures, combined with rugged blues instrumentals.

“Dot’s Symphony” (originally “Dot’s Song”) is a composition written by Matt in 2018. Originally for solo piano, Matt has arranged it to include strings and flutes for tonight’s performance. The song is written and dedicated to Matt’s niece Dot. “Dot’s Symphony is an absolute delight to play, it is full of the whimsy and wonder of childhood” Naomi Dart.

This piece will be performed during the Thursday and Friday evening performances. Tickets available via this link https://events.humanitix.com/ekstasis-ensemble-presents-midnight-sun-ov61fav3

Over at Lounge Sessions I am running a series of cafe gigs over summer which are proudly supported by the City of Newcastle. I have aimed at having as many young female singer songwriters as I could.

Here is the Local IWD Calendar of Events 2022

Details of all events are pinned to the Newcastle Women's Alliance fbook page. This will continue to be updated.

Just a reminder that the theme for IWD 2022 is Changing Climates - Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.

International Women's Day is not a passive day - it is founded in feminist activism, in working women taking action for fair and reasonable working conditions. IWD continues to be a day of activism, where we absolutely celebrate and recognise what we have achieved to improve rights and opportunities for women, but there is still so much to do, the structures of patriarchy still need dismantling, so we continue to work for change, together.
