There are lots of ways you can involve children of all ages in your wedding ceremony to make sure they feel special and included.

As well as traditional flower girl and page boy roles you could:
- Give them the job of ring security 😁
- Ask them to walk the bride down the aisle
- Ask them to manage a ring warming ritual
- Include them in a sand blending ceremony
- Involve them in lighting a unity candle
- Invite them to read a favourite poem
- Write them into your vows so they're an integral part of your commitment to one another

Great afternoon with the lovely Linda and Craig, planning their special intimate wedding ceremony at Melville Castle Hotel. Definitely one of my favourite parts of being a wedding celebrant, getting to spend time with couples, working through all the details of their ceremony and hearing their stories. And what a story this one is - a transatlantic love story, 15 years in the making. Can't wait to share it with their guests in May. It's going to be a belter!🤩💕

If you’re unsure what’s involved in a humanist wedding ceremony, or whether it’s the right option for you, read on. 😊

One of the many amazing things about having a humanist wedding is that it gives you the freedom to create a totally unique ceremony that completely reflects you as a couple.

Apart from the legal essentials, the shape of the ceremony and the elements within it are entirely up to you. That means you can have your wedding in pretty much any location you choose, at any time of the day or evening, involve your friends and family, give roles to your children, include your dog in the proceedings – whatever makes it special for you. There are also a host of symbolic rituals you can choose to include too if you like – from handfasting to ring warming, sand ceremonies to tree planting – many of which will give you a lasting memento to remember your big day.

Then there are the vows, the exchange of rings, the music…!

Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself to those of you who might not know much about me yet and tell you a little about my background and celebrant journey 😊
🌻I live in Gullane, East Lothian where you’ll find me walking on the beautiful local beaches whenever I get the chance.
🌻I’m married to Rob and we have a son, Daniel, currently in 3rd year at uni.
🌻I think I’ve been a humanist all my life but didn’t realise it until about 25 years ago when I heard Stephen Fry talking about humanism on the radio and had one of those lightbulb moments when I thought ‘That’s me he’s talking about!’ I’ve been proud to call myself a humanist ever since.
🌻Rob and I had a humanist wedding back in 2001 in the days before they were legally binding and had to be combined with a formal registry office ceremony beforehand. Definitely worth it though to have the kind of personal, individual, memorable wedding that we really wanted.
🌻I’ve wanted to be a humanist celebrant since I spoke at both my parent’s funerals in 2014. Being my family’s voice on both those occasions gave me a very personal insight into how rewarding it can be to help people to share their stories and celebrate life’s biggest moments in their own very special way.
🌻Last year was finally the right time in my life to take this dream forward and I was thrilled to bits to be accepted by the Caledonian Humanist Association to join their celebrant team.
🌻After successfully completing their rigorous training, receiving my official registration papers in the post from the National Registers of Scotland authorising me to legally conduct weddings was one of my proudest moments!
🌻Having worked in marketing and communications for over 30 years, writing and sharing people’s stories has always been my favourite part of the job. So to now be able to use the same skills in my role as a celebrant is a dream come true.

Such a pleasure to marry this fabulous pair yesterday. 💕

It was so lovely to share with their guests their story so far. Written by the very talented groom, Alfie, we learned how he and Kate had waited a combined total of 107 years to meet, before being brought together by a mutual friend who knew they were perfect for one another!

With handfasting, two beautiful readings, Norbert the spaniel as ring bearer, and a flying butterfly finale it was quite the occasion!

Huge thank you to Fiona and all the team at for their professionalism and fun, making the day run like clockwork.
