Theres a wedding trend that I’ve been noticing in the wedding planning space:
Wedding coordination has expanded as a “must have” service for your wedding and many new people have popped up offering “day of” coordination.
I hate to break it to you but day of coordination is not a real thing. I was talking to another wedding planner this weekend who told me she tells her clients it’s irresponsible to hire someone solely for the day of and I loved that wording. You should have a solid trusting relationship with someone who also is providing an inclusive and professional experience for you.
Coordination expands further than day of. Your planner and/or coordinator should be involved in the wedding planning process to ensure proper execution of the wedding day way in advance, not just show up the day of and run the show.
This is in no way shape or form criticizing anyone or any company. I’m simply highlighting the difference and what to look for when you are researching wedding coordination.
You should be looking for:
Companies with a professional website, services, and referrals.
Companies who charge over $1500

Here are some ways that I have been practicing being more inclusive with my language in the wedding industry:
I stopped saying “bridal party” and I use “wedding party”
I stopped saying bride and groom and I use “couple and partners” until my couple identify themselves and then I follow their lead.
I stopped making assumptions right off the bat and in my consult I get to know my couple, their wedding style, and preferences.
I hold a safe space for all in my company and it’s important to us to shift our language!
