Did you know the earliest known commemoration of fallen soliders post-Civil War was by a group of Freed African Americans in Charleston, SC in 1865?

While Memorial Day’s origins are credited to Gen. John A. Logan and the town of Waterloo, NY, a group of newly freed soldiers and patrons, missionaries, children started the “Martyrs of the Race Course” memorial at the Charleston Racetrack Clubhouse.

The honoring of those who’ve served continues to be a long-lived tradition.

And while red poppies, carnations, peonies, and forget me nots are the traditional flower for memorial day, additional flowers ideal for sympathy arrangements can include: Chrysanthemums, orchids, roses, hydrangeas, lilies, dafodils, and tulips.

The time set aside to reflect the maternal figures in our lives, is a testament to the important role of mother.

We would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that this isn’t a joyous occasion for most. While many celebrate, there are those who equally grieve.

Know that to “mother” is to nurture, and it’s ok to disconnect, to preserve your mental and emotional health during this time.

Social media is flooded with success stories that ignite our ambitions and push us forward. But what we don’t see often are the struggles. As an entrepreneur, I’ve faced countless challenges on this journey. Last year, an opportunity presented itself to me—a chance to open a second location. Oh, how it seemed like a magnificent idea, a meticulously crafted plan ready to take flight. But, it didn’t unfold as I had hoped. Despite pouring my heart and soul into curating a space that reflected my very essence, I had to come to terms with the fact that it was time to let go.

One of the most challenging aspects of this decision has been bidding farewell to the sense of community I felt in Jersey City—the intimate connections, the profound relationships forged. I can still hear the echoes of kind souls stepping into our space, exclaiming, “This is exactly what our community needs!” or “I never thought I’d witness a store like this in our neighborhood.” For these and many other reasons the closing weights heavily on my heart. I have so much gratitude and reverence for the Jersey City community. Thank you for allowing us to create a space where we were able to share, cultivate & build community.

We’re officially closing shop on Sunday , May 12th. You’ll still have the opportunity to grab a beautiful bouquet or a thoughtful gift for the mamas. We have a BOGO sale - 50% off on all gift items , aromatherapy , crystals & books from May 6th-12th.
This isn’t a somber farewell. All the treasures you’ve grown to adore will now be readily available online, with shipping available, as well as at our Livingston location. Moreover, we shall maintain a vibrant presence within the Jersey City community through numerous pop-ups and exciting vending events scheduled throughout the summer.💫
