At Shaheedi Bunga Vidyala in Panjab, ten young students live and learn together — growing each day through their practice of Tabla, Kirtan, and Santhiya.
With the guidance of their Ustads, the Vidyala continues to expand, keeping the tradition of Gurmat Sangeet alive with love and dedication. 🙏

This week at Dashmesh Gurdwara’s Wednesday Sikh History Class, our students shared thoughtful and creative homework presentations, each exploring deep Sikh concepts in their own way:

Group 1 created a map model showing the important places Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited — including Talwandi, Sultanpur, Batala, Lahore, Eminabad, and Sri Nankana Sahib. The children beautifully explained each sakhi connected to these locations and the gurdwaras that now stand there. They also recited a heartfelt Punjabi poem summarizing Guru Ji’s journeys.

Group 2 explored the concept of the Aatma (soul). Their model illustrated the three parts of the soul and connected it to a shabad by Guru Sahib comparing the “man” (mind) to a chariot, the “budh” (intellect) and “aatma” (soul) as the riders, and the five prans as the horses pulling it forward.
They even conducted a creative balloon experiment — using a foil ball inside a balloon to show that the body and soul are separate, and when the body perishes, the soul remains unaffected.

Through these inspiring presentations, our young students continue to connect Sikhi’s spiritual wisdom with creativity, learning, and heartfelt understanding.

This week at Dashmesh Gurdwara’s Wednesday Sikh History Class, our students explored the sakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s return to Talwandi.

After Guru Ji’s return, their family and Rai Bular encouraged them to stay and open a shop, like the one in Sultanpur that had once earned great profit. But Guru Ji instead shared a beautiful shabad, explaining through metaphors that the true “rice,” “daal,” and “business” are found in living a spiritual life filled with Naam, honesty, and compassion.

Two groups of children presented their own interpretations of this sakhi, using creative models and crafts to show the deeper meaning behind Guru Ji’s message — and even had a friendly competition to see who could portray it best!

5 days of learning, connection, and growth at Sikhi Camp 🌸
From the rhythm of tabla and jori, to the melodies of dilruba and vaja, to the depth of Gurbani Santhia — every moment was filled with blessings and love for Gurmat 🙏

In this week’s Sikh History Class at Dashmesh Gurdwara, our students shared creative homework projects inspired by two beautiful sakhis (stories) from Sikh history:

Group 1 built a working clay well, inspired by the sakhi of Bhai Bhagata Ji. The story teaches us about faith, seva, and determination. Even when supernatural challenges arose, Bhai Bhagata Ji and the sangat completed the well in one night, showing the power of collective effort and divine support.

Group 2 reenacted the sakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Pathan, and his son. One student dressed as a fakir to represent the 1,100 fakirs freed through Guru Ji’s grace. This sakhi reminds us of compassion, forgiveness, and the miracle of Guru Ji’s divine wisdom.

Through these creative projects, the children learned that Sikh history is not only to be read — but lived, understood, and shared with love.

Join us for a glimpse into the Wednesday Sikh Ithihas class at Dashmesh Gurdwara. This week, the children shared their creative homework projects based on two beautiful sakhis (stories):
• One group created a large hand fan to represent the sakhi of Bhai Sai Das Ji and Bibi Ramo Ji, who lovingly fanned Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji while Guru Ji was spiritually aiding Sikhs on a boat.
• Another group made two rotis to depict the sakhi of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Malik Bhago, and Bhai Lalo Ji—showing the contrast between food earned through honest living and food gained through exploitation.

Through these projects, the children learned how Sikh history continues to inspire us to live with seva (selfless service), honesty, and devotion.

On this day in 1606, a new chapter began in Sikh history.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, knowing that Their physical end was near, prepared the Panth for a future that would require strength alongside spirituality. Before answering the emperor’s summons to Lahore — from which They would not return — Guru Ji passed the divine light of Guruship to Their son, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

On Jeth Vadi Ashtami (May 1606), Guru Ji called for Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji. They asked if the Sahibzada was ready. Baba Buddha Ji replied, “Your light lives within them. They will be a great warrior, a bearer of arms.”

Guru Ji stood with joy, holding a coconut and five coins. They circled Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji three times and bestowed Guruship, placing Their divine light into the young Guru. Baba Buddha Ji then applied the saffron and sandalwood tilak — the sacred mark of leadership.

Before leaving, Guru Ji entrusted the Guru’s house to five devoted Sikhs and departed for Lahore with five more — where They embraced martyrdom with unshakable peace, sitting on a burning plate as hot sand was poured upon Them.

Guru Ji’s final message:

“Do not mourn for us. Sing praises of Waheguru. Meet Guru Hargobind with joy. The time has come to rise. Take up arms. Sit upon the throne. Establish righteousness. Build an army. Destroy falsehood. Defend the truth.”

With this, the path of Miri-Piri was born — a revolution of spirit and strength.

From silence to shastar,
From sehaj to sovereignty,
From sacrifice to Sant-Sipahi.

This was not the end.
This… was Gurta Gaddi.

Caption 1 – Intro

There are times when nations aren’t tested by war — but by survival.
This is the story of Chhota Ghallughara — the Minor Holocaust of the Sikhs.

Caption 2 – 1740 Begins

In 1740, Massa Ranghar turned Harmandir Sahib into a den of shame.
But two Singhs walked in with justice in their hands.
Bhai Sukha Singh.Bhai Mehtab Singh. One strike. One message.

Caption 3 – The Spark

That one act lit a fire.
By 1746, Sikhs were rising across Eminabad.
Jathas raided Mughal lines. The Panth had awakened.

Caption 4 – Jaspat Rai’s Death

In Eminabad, Jaspat Rai was killed in battle.
His brother, Lakhpat Rai, would answer with genocide.

Caption 5 – Genocide Begins

Lakhpat Rai vowed to wipe out every Sikh.
On 10 March 1746, the executions began.
Hundreds beheaded daily at Shahid Ganj.
No trial. No mercy. Just blood.

Caption 6 – Attack on Sikhi

He banned the word ‘Guru’.
Burned scripture. Filled the holy pool with sand.
He tried to kill an identity.

Caption 7 – Kahnuwan Siege

15,000 Sikhs hid in Kahnuwan’s forests.
Surrounded. Starving. Unarmed.
But never broken.

Caption 8 – The Escape

They ran north — only to be blocked again.
They crossed the Ravi, Beas, Sutlej — bleeding, hunted, drowning.
The rivers were red.

Caption 9 – The Toll

7,000 killed in battle.
3,000 captured and beheaded in Lahore.
This was an attempt to erase a nation.

Caption 10 – The Spirit

But what they couldn’t kill…
was the spirit.
The Khalsa didn’t die that day.
It was reborn. Fiercer. Deeper. Eternal.

Caption 11 – Today

Today we don’t just bow to a shrine —
we bow to the earth beneath it.
To the blood that made us rise.
