18 years ago to this date…

Donae Petrina Johnson,

I remember it vividly, as though it was merely yesterday. I remember it vividly the year vividly because one month prior to your promotion to higher service, I too,was up for promotion when on January 8th of that very same year, on a faithful Sunday my father and I nearly lost our lives in that car accident by the Ferry Police Station in St Catherine, Jamaica.

Fast forward to February 10th, whilst at our alma mater,Saint Jago High School,I ran from my detention at the pavilion,after seeing dozens upon dozens of our schoolmates pouring towards the cafeteria. My curiosity grew with each stride across the hot sahara, that was our playing field. As I broke the corner with much anxiety, my world shattered to pieces, my heart skip several beats,to discover you lifeless…swaying in the arms of our music teacher.

Keep watching over me, now more than ever. Say hello to my grandparents and tell them to stop by.

I hope you are doing well my friend.

I love you and I truly miss you.

This work is the aria 'Ombra mai fù' from the opera Serse (Xerxes). In this aria, Serse (King of Persia) stands under a tree in his garden and sings to it. Handel's tempo marking is Larghetto (not Largo).

This work has over the years increased in its demand within the liturgical sphere, for its sheer majesty and fluidic cadence.
