We think that winter elopements in Scotland are just the best!
Not only do you get some amazingly subtle and moody light for your photographs but there are no midges, no tourists loitering in the background, and you get to wear that amazing coat that's too warm for the summer.
Kirsten and Keenen had a mid-winter elopement at one of our all-time favourite locations - Castle Tioram. In fact, it's where Bog Cotton was born!
If you're thinking of a winter wonderland elopement along the west Highland coast of Scotland we would love to help. We can't promise you'll see sea-otters playing in loch Moidart like Kirsten and Keenan did, but we will do our best for sure 😉

Trevor has written a blog about two weddings he photographed one weekend in April, the first of which, Tom and Adele's, was a Bog Cotton one (we always get the worst weather haha!).
Two Different Glencoe Elopements. The same location, the same weekend, but the very different weather made for two completely different days.

STRIKE A POSE ⚡💥
When one of your brides (and solicitor!) ends up in actual Vogue. Here's Ciara looking all kinds of glorious. We always knew that Arisaig micro-weddings were cool AF.

A DREAMY BOG COTTON FINALE 💍
Our final elopement of the year took place on home soil and it was RIGHT up our street. No fuss. No fanfare. Just the way we like it. Chris and Amy put a ring on it between downpours on Silver Sands beach, and we couldn't have loved their day more. The colours, the crazy weather, the tale of their relationship embroidered onto their handfasting ribbons, a quaich-full of piping hot tea, a big bushy bouquet and a super-fun couple. Wondrous

We can't believe it's been two years already since this amazing winter wedding!
Ella and Stephen chose the stunningly beautiful Tigh Na Mara lodge in Acharachle for their ceremony. Their closest friends and family (and dogs) gathered around the log fire to witness this amazing moment in their lives. Before the daylight faded they popped over to nearby Castle Tioram (one of our favourite venues - it's where Bog Cotton was actually born!).
The wintery sunset photographs alone were definitely worth the trip ♥️

DON'T GO CHASING WATERFALLS 🌊
Hellish advice from TLC there. We love chasing waterfalls. Best backdrops ever! We didn't realise it had been FIVE months since we last posted here!! We're still going strong (not Trevor so much, he's getting really old now) 🙌

JUST MARRIED 💍
When a traditional first dance simply doesn't cut the mustard. We LOVED this wedding ❤️

Scottish Beach Elopement - Kay and Ryan rescheduled their whole wedding in just a couple of days, and had the best day you can imagine!

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY ☔
Or don't, actually! We’re not really sure why, but rain is majorly romantic (or maybe we've just lived in Scotland for too long!).
When Sarah & Chris got caught in a wedding day downpour last month, they didn’t run for cover, they fully embraced it. Legends💍
Fun fact: Those who find joy and peace of mind during rainy days are known as Pluviophiles 🙌

THAT TIME WE CROSSED INTO WESTER ROSS 💍🚘🚢
One of the coolest things about being Bog Cottoners is that we get booked to seal the deal for couples in all sorts of incredible locations. Often, we can't manage to schedule in the further afield elopements; however, every now and again we make a holiday out of it!
The gorgeous elopement of Katie & John at Shieldaig Lodge in Wester Ross was one such occasion! ❤️

SCOTTISH BEACH WEDDINGS 💍❄️
Getting married on a Scottish beach in summer is a bit of a gamble, but only total LEGENDS are brave enough to do it in winter! YES to putting a ring on Kay & Ryan at Camusdarach last week. It was baltic. We absolutely loved them ❤️

BRILLIANT BORRODALE 💍👑
We shouldn't really have favourites, but when it comes to West Highland wedding venues, Borrodale House takes the crown!
Every time we do a wedding here, we fall a little bit more in love with this glorious old pile, which suited Fiona & Nils autumn garden party vibe PERFECTLY.
Catering - Local gal, Brogan from Bloom & Graze
Hair & Makeup - Fort William based Bonnys Wonderland
Venue - Google Borrodale House! The house sleeps up to 18 and offers a million ceremony location options!

THE STATUE OF MYSTERY 🗽
We have absolutely no idea what James & Guiller's vision was when they began wrapping Paula in 20m of tulle just before the ceremony, but as absurd as it is, we're kinda here for it 🤣
Sidenote: The best part of this photo is that the crown belongs to one of our 2020 brides, who was married on this exact spot. Thanks Jess ❤️💍

A BOG COTTON BOUQUET 🌾
We knew the day would come. This blooming beautiful bouquet not only smelled like heaven, it also contained Bog Cotton!
Sasha at 'Flowers from Fort William' grows every single bloom herself and specialises in wild, loose and vibrant bouquets.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 💍🥂
Not only is it the lovely Becky & Leigh's anniversary, it's also OUR anniversary!! Four years ago we (Paula & Trevor) met on a heathery mound in front of Castle Tioram after which we decided to begin the Bog Cotton journey! Since then, we have married hundreds of EPIC couples and have verbally abused each other most days.
Most of our couples probably think we hate each other, but we secretly love each other ❤️

THE NEED FOR TWEED 👒
When in a hunting lodge! We're having a great time up here in sunny Wester Ross! A perfect day for an elopement 💍

PUPPY LOVE 🐶❤️
It's hard to believe that Trigger the Saint Bernard is still a puppy because he's freakin' ginormous!! Trigger and Bonnie the Beagle came along to witness their humans put a ring on it yesterday afternoon in Glencoe.
Congratulations to Kat & Chris! A fun & fabulous elopement for a fun & fabulous couple 💍😘

WHAT A DAY ☀️💍
The west Highlands aren't short of a good view or two! Today's early morning elopement location is the epitome of magnificence 😍

LET THERE BE LIGHT 💥⚡
We've been a bit moany about the Highland weather lately (in our defence, it has been THE worst summer ever); however, every now and again, the clouds part and through the lashing rain comes a slice of sunlight that cloaks the entire landscape in some sort of otherworldly, ethereal glow. These moments are what makes the Highlands extraordinary (and well worth the extra electricity £££s spent tumble drying all your gear). It's spectacular, as was our beautiful bride, Natasha (and her equally gorgeous hubster, Mark) ❤️

CEREMONY BACKDROP WIN 😍💍
This morning Paula made peace with May when she made her way over to Skye to marry the very lovely Liley & Jordan.
Guess what? For the first time this month, IT DIDN'T RAIN! Okay, so it wasn't exactly a heatwave, but nobody got soaked and the sensational ceremony styling brought the sunshine 🌞

CAMPERVAN SANCTUARY 💍🚐
Following on from yesterday's rainy May post, this is the moment we had to "borrow" a lovely Polish family's cosy campervan to sign the Marriage Schedule in a dry place.
We'll be forever grateful to both the Polish family and Natasha & Mark for smiling through the squalls 🥰

OMG, MAY! 😬🌪️🌧️💍
One of the most frequently asked questions we get is "which month would you recommend we get married in Scotland?" and our first response is "MAY!!"
May 2022, however, has been outrageous! Aside from the green glens and colourful blooms, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it was January!
Luckily for us, our couples are rock stars and we can't wait to show you our May montage in the next week or two.
Thankfully May's brides and grooms rocked the weather with more pizzazz than Paula 🤣🤣

BOG COTTON'S BACK 🌱
Despite the horrific weather at today's Glen Nevis ceremony, it was lovely to see the first of this year's bog cotton popping up!
As usual up here, May is a mega busy month for us. Congratulations to Jean & Allan who married yesterday at Driftwood House and to the incredible Jen & Wes who fully embraced the Highland weather in all its glory this morning 🌧️🌪️🏔️
We loved every minute of it 🙌💍

REASON NO.2386 TO MARRY IN THE WILDS OF SCOTLAND 💍🏴

THE CELEBRANT SAFETY NET 💍🕸
This afternoon Paula did her very best superwoman impression when she sped off to Glencoe to marry the lovely Lindsay & John!
Lindsay & John were due to be married by the awesome Amy Lawson, but pesky covid reared its ugly head; however, because Amy & Paula are part of the Fuze Ceremonies squad, each of their couples are covered by the company’s back-up promise, which guarantees a stand-in celebrant should the worst case scenario occur!!
P.s. how gorgeous is Lindsay & John’s personalised arch?!

WE CAME, WE THAWED, WE CONQUERED 🌨🩲
We're not going to lie, this elopement was a baltic one, but it was such an adventure that we don't think any of us actually felt the cold! A & M were an absolute pleasure to work with and we loved every minute of our marrying mission in Glen Nevis and Glencoe with them. Congratulations again 🙌

HEATHER & HIGH TIDE
Today's ceremony was at Tougal beach where it was a pleasure to be serenaded by the lovely Ingrid Henderson and her trusty clarsach while we awaited the arrival of the happy couple <3

Who are we?
When photographer, Trevor Wilson, and Humanist Celebrant, Paula Wilkinson, met in 2018 at the wedding of Rebecca and Leigh at ancient Castle Tioram on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it was the beginning of an exciting new venture that has since taken them on a marrying mission across the Highlands of Scotland where they’ve been honoured to be involved in the creation of some seriously epic elopements!
It was the simplicity, beauty and romance of Rebecca and Leigh’s elopement to such a wild, wonderful and remote part of Scotland that captured both Trevor and Paula’s imagination and so it was decided that they would join forces and offer loved-up couples a bespoke, adventure elopement experience that would knock their socks off and so Bog Cotton Scottish Elopements was born!
Bog Cotton may sound like something you might flush down the toilet, but it’s actually a gloriously ethereal flower which grows out of peat bogs across the wilds of Scotland. Aside from the fact that the sight of thousands of white, fluffy Bog Cotton heads dotted across a windswept glen is incredible, the message behind something so beautiful having the ability to grow out of nothing but mud, is the perfect analogy to Trevor and Paula’s vision for their adventure elopements. Plus, if you stretch your imagination a little, Bog Cotton even looks like tiny veiled faerie brides!
So if you’re looking to elope to the Scottish wilderness for a one-of-a-kind micro wedding, then look no further. Paula and Trevor will use their extensive knowledge of Scotland to find your perfect ceremony location. By getting to know your preferred landscape, how adventurous you’re willing to get, the number of guests attending as well a plethora of other factors, they can determine the best possible location and timeline for your big day.
Trevor is based near Glasgow and has twenty years experience as a wedding and travel photographer and has captured the magic at hundreds of elopements and weddings all over Scotland throughout his career. Specialising is a more informal documentary style of photography he is perfectly suited to capturing your elopement for you, no matter where you choose to have it or what happens on the day. He definitely prefers to photograph more relaxed and intimate weddings and feels that you can really focus on the important parts of a wedding ceremony that way. Absolutely loving the Scottish wilderness Trevor is more than happy to work with you to help choose a location that will add that extra bit of beauty to your photographs whilst keeping the adventurous aspect at a comfortable level for you.
Paula lives in the western Highlands and trained as a Celebrant with Fuze Ceremonies and now represents the company across the Highlands and Islands. Having graduated with first class honours in English Literature and Journalism, she loves the creative element of writing and delivering wedding scripts. Paula firmly believes that no matter what your journey as a couple, it is a one of a kind love story and she is eager to tell the tale! Due to her affiliation with Fuze Ceremonies, Paula is fully insured and benefits from the Fuze “back-up” promise, so even if she is struck down by illness on the morning of your big day, there’s a full back-up procedure in place to assure your big day can still go ahead.
Both Trevor and Paula are mildly obsessed, okay MASSIVELY obsessed, with mega adventurous couples and will climb mountains, kayak into the middle of lochs or stand on a beach in a storm to capture the perfect moment to ensure your memories from your big day will never be forgotten. They’re also obsessed with dogs at weddings!
