About a decade ago (which is wild to even think about) I graduated from Harrington College of Design with a degree in Digital Photography, made lifelong friends, and was taught by some of the best teachers out there. I was educated on much more than just photography itself, including business aspects such as pricing structures, contracts, and copyright laws.
Wedding photographers specifically, but also those specializing in portraits, have devoted literal years to clients and so, so much work goes into crafting a stunning gallery to cherish your beautiful day forever. I, along with many other photographers out there, have stayed up for hours after putting our babies to bed to perfect your images and present it to you in a stunning gallery online. We are artists - we take SO much pride in our work.
Despite having completed my time as a wedding photographer, I still have galleries accessible from 5+ years ago. Clients frequently download and purchase products from my online shop. There are so many options that I provide to my clients, including but not limited to, fine art albums, lay flat albums, canvases, prints, and thank you cards.
My desire is for my clients to have many options to print their photos or make high quality albums at a reasonable price. In fact, against much of the advice I've been given by my former professors, I set my commissions so low so that my clients are encouraged to shop from the gallery and have beautiful products to show for the investment they've made in their wedding photos.
I want you to have something tangible. To see on your walls. To hold in your hands. What I don't condone is other photographers offering to make albums of the hours, days, weeks, and months worth of work we've devoted to our clients making any kind of commission off of any of our work. It is our work. Provided to our clients for personal use. Most agreements with a photographer provide a limited release to reproduce their work. This is a friendly reminder that none of the contracts I have with my clients would allow something like this (copyright infringement - violation of right to reproduce the work) and I like to believe that none of my clients would even consider this. Despite finishing my career as a wedding photographer I am always here to help you with your galleries, assist in creating an album through my online shop, provide other avenues for printing within your budget, or answer any other questions you have regarding tangible goods.
Thank you for supporting your wedding photographer, whoever that may be! 🤍
