33 years on this planet called for a new look! 🥳💇🏾‍♂️

This recent year of life brought a lot of reflection, changes, transitions, and growth. I focused a lot of personal growth and cementing my circle. Grateful to still be alive and in good health 🙏🏾

This next year is going to change my life forever and I can’t wait to share more with you all 👀

Being able to travel and film weddings is a dream come true

Documenting the stories of couples from diverse backgrounds and cultures fills my heart with joy. Every destination brings new adventures, incredible landscapes, and unforgettable moments. From mountain top vows to tented backyard gatherings, each location adds its own character.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to blend my passion for filmmaking with the beauty of travel, creating memories for couples everywhere.

This year, I am excited to have been nominated and elected as the Auston Wedding Planner Association Vendor Representative for 2023!

As a Wedding Filmmaker, something I pride myself on is the ability to connect and get to know my couples in a way for their voice and story to be told through video. As the Vendor Representative, my goal of connecting with AWPA Preferred Vendors and Planners for their voice to be heard carries the same sentiment.

I believe in the vision and mission that AWPA stands on and I have always been an advocate for and praised them as community builders, leaders, and educators that make Austin one of the best cities to be a part of as a wedding vendor.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on Instagram! But I’ve still been here scrolling, observing, judging, but most importantly, reducing my screen time.

I’ve been off for the past 2 months now and it’s been an amazing time of actually resting, discovering new hobbies, playing, camping, and spending time with Amanda ❤️

2023 is going to look a lot different behind the scenes but I’m so excited for this year’s weddings and sharing some of my films from the end of 2022.

Also, after this weekend, ya boy will have no backlog! 🙌🏾😩

I became Jeff and Adrielle's biggest fan after our first video chat. We instantly hit it off and connected on celebrating family to enjoying the little moments in life. Everything about this wedding from the people, desserts, dancing, music (one song in particular 😉), weather, vendor team, EVERYTHING about this day was everything. Can you tell that I enjoyed this wedding??⁣

Now that my 2021 wedding season is over, I've been able to slow down a bit and reflect on all of the couples that I've been blessed to meet and be a part of one of the most important days of their lives. This day did not go as planned. ⁣
⁣
In some ways though, I think it actually came out better. The day started off with one of the worst rain storms I’ve experienced on a wedding day, but that rain + a nearby fire created such a beautiful and dramatic atmosphere that honestly left me speechless.⁣
⁣
This day would not have been the same if not for an amazing wedding coordinator, a great photographer to work with, and this beautiful venue that made it so easy to get creative. ⁣
⁣
Nia and Nyika have a very special chemistry and the way they talk about each other really shined a light on that. ⁣
⁣
That is all I’m going to say about this wedding. But this little film give you a taste of what it was like! ❤️ ⁣

I remember having a phone conversation with Meme about a month before her marriage celebration.⁣
⁣
I legit felt like we could’ve transcribed our whole conversation to turn it into a book and influence the way we all see weddings and marriage. Her and Cliff’s love story is truly one about redemption and restoration and she really wanted this celebration to be used as an opportunity to show black love.⁣
⁣
And that it did. ⁣
⁣
This little teaser doesn’t bring justice to the full day but it is a small glimpse of the life and love that was shared that day. ⁣

The lyrics of this song says, “Oh my, you got that ‘hotter than a summer in July’ type magic”

And everything about that line defines the wedding of Masi and Reina. It was a hot, humid, and bright day in Houston (pretty standard, right?) but these two really brought the magic!

I’m excited to deliver this film soon! I was reminded of my first conversation with Masi and Reina where we hit it off immediately over our love for culture, travel, and the Houston Rockets (we stay optimistic haha).

One of my favorite parts of the wedding day happens before the wedding begins. ⁣
⁣
*VOLUME UP*⁣
⁣
Being able to have some one on one time with the Groom and ask him questions to hear how he’s processing this huge life milestone. Many couples can get wrapped up in the “event” of the wedding that having a few moments alone to reflect on the celebration of their marriage is extremely and emotionally felt. ⁣
⁣
Remember why you’re doing this.

An emotion that I didn’t realize that I was feeling is loneliness.⁣⁣⁣⁣

This is so weird to admit because I am typically surrounded by people but I think that my problem was that I was trying to label the company of other’s presence as deep connections. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Well this past week I was able to attend (hosted by ) and this was my first experience to learn and be around other wedding filmmakers in this type of environment. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Having learned everything I know about filming weddings from either YouTube or personal experience, I appreciated the opportunity to be surrounded by other people in similar positions and with similar visions from around the world to share their knowledge and experience.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Everything from rooftop film critiques, new swag, learning from the best, floating rivers, bat 🦇 cruises, and connecting with new & old friends. My heart is full!⁣
⁣
I don’t take for granted the stories of the couples that I’m able to document and share or the friends I’m able to work alongside; but to now connect and make friends with people that I’m able to support and receive support from outside of my inner circle brings me so much joy.⁣⁣⁣⁣

I’m enjoying some rest on this Labor Day but still so thankful for the couples that I get to “labor” with. You all make “work” so fun and enjoyable for me, especially when there are peacocks around 😂 ⁣⁣

It is so hard to believe that we are already halfway through this year! 2020 took 3 years to get through so it feels good to see 6 months of this year to go by.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

About Matthew Reid Photography

This is how I got started and what drives me to keep going:

Growing up, I wasn’t considered a creative person. It wasn’t until after college that I realized my life could not just be about working a 9-5 job and that I needed a creative outlet. My options were to either be a DJ or a photographer. It was around this time that my fiancé (now wife) and I were wedding planning and searching for a wedding photographer that I realized a huge problem. We struggled tremendously to find a photographer in our area that had a portfolio that adequately represented people of color enough for us to feel comfortable and trusting that our skin tones would pop beautifully. This is what led me to purchase my first camera and eventually start and grow my videography and photography business.

What I first started out as a need for a creative outlet has now become a platform to share the natural love stories of couples through video and photography. I am extremely grateful that I was able to see early on that life is more than work and deserves to be fun and creative.
