Twin City Blossoms The mission of Twin City Blossoms is to provide brides with high-quality wedding flowers and décor for a reasonable cost.

We aim to create friendships before we create bouquets, so that we can put a personal touch on every piece we create. From using your great-grandmother's brooch, to using your father's tie, or lace from your mother's own wedding dress, there is no limit on how unique and significant we can make your bouquet. We understand how important it is to create not only a beautiful bouquet, but a beautiful

memory, and a legacy that can be passed on. Twin City Blossoms is also committed to helping people learn about houseplants and their care. We have two greenhouses full of tropical plants and houseplants from all over the world. From the every day peace lilies to the tropical philodendrons, we love them all! Let us help you learn how to make your plants thrive. We love propagating new plants and reviving and rescuing established plants.

It’s no secret that we love doing church altar flowers. It’s such a blessing to use God’s perfect creations to glorify Him.

This particular piece was fun to create due to the asymmetry and texture! We love getting to stretch the boundaries and get artistic.

Reflexed white roses create the base with pops of purple statice and hot pink camellias. The aspidistra leaves give a wide, dark backdrop to the delicate dried wheat and bunny tail grass.

We service all churches in the area- reach out if we can ever get some church flowers made up for ya!

Fun Fact: The Christmas Cactus that you all are seeing in the stores this time of year in full bloom...is actually not a Christmas Cactus! In fact, it's not even a true cactus...

There are three groups of these beautifully-bloomed succulents that we all love: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The names of each of these reflects the time of year that they bloom- though it isn't quite that simple. Some of these can actually bloom multiple times a year.

The ones you all are raving over this time of year is actually the Thanksgiving Cactus! These guys typically bloom from November to January, which makes it very easy to confuse them with the Christmas Cactus. But- the Christmas Cactus is so uncommonly found, that it's not sold in most local greenhouses or nurseries. It's just not a heavily propagated plant. Most cuttings and divisions of Christmas cactus plants are quite honestly hard to find.

The Easter Cactus is the second most common variety other than the Thanksgiving. You'll see this one blooming in the spring after coming out a winter dormancy. While the Easter Cactus is more easily found than the Christmas, it's also still not as common as the Thanksgiving.

How do you tell them apart?
By the leaf shape! This group of plants has a modified leaf called a "cladode," or pad. The Thanksgiving Cactus has a very pointy end that resembles horns coming out of the top, and the Easter Cactus has a very rounded, oval edge that often has tiny hairs on the end. The Christmas variety has a hybrid of the two, with a bumpy, rounded, yet smooth edge.

How do I get mine to bloom?
Many owners of these plants often worry why their cactus isn't blooming like the ones in the stores. These plants require a period of darkness to trigger a bloom, and also a slightly lower temperature. The best tip to get a good bloom is to put the plant in a darker, cooler spot for about 3-5 weeks before giving it a good watering and bringing it back into the light. For the Thanksgiving cactus, this would be in October. In fact, many folks don't even realize they're actually "helping" their Thanksgiving Cactus by leaving it on their porches through the cooler nights and shorter days that settle upon us in October and November. If the nights are just too cold, they can always be put in a garage or cool closet for the darkening period.

How do I care for it?
White it isn't a true cactus, it is an epiphytic succulent much like Spanish moss and staghorn ferns. These types of plants are understory plants that require very little care. Water only when the soil is completely dry, and keep them in dappled light. You'll know if your plant is getting too much light when the pads start to turn purple.

How can I share my plant?
These succulents are very easy to share through division or by rooting a pad. Many of the Thanksgiving and Easter Cacti that most of us own were in fact handed down from our grandmothers or great-aunts. There are specimens that are known to be over 60-70 years old! Try pulling a rooted bunch off the base of a well-established plant, or you can pop an unrooted stem in some moist soil and let it set roots. It is also common to break off some of the more leggy branches and stick them right back into the soil under the original plant to help form a fuller pot. Some people even go as far as putting multiple colors in the same pot!

Stay tuned this week...we have some beautiful blooming Thanksgiving Cactus planters ready to go that would make perfect holiday gifts!

We brought the outside “in” with this church arrangement for Mt Ebal. Lots of greenery provided texture, and the added wheat and dried bunny tail grass gave it a pop of dark brown to complement the blue and white.
