Mermaid Salacia South Australian Sea Witch, Mermaid Salacia

Mermaid Salacia is a real-life mermaid from South Australia with a shiny black tail and a heart of gold.
(3)

The name Salacia comes from ancient Roman mythology. Salacia was the female divinity of the sea, worshipped as the goddess of salt water who presided over the depths of the ocean. Our Mermaid Salacia is South Australia's very own sea witch! She loves all things magical and a little bit spooky. Where other mermaids may play in coral reefs and warm waters, Salacia spends her days exploring the dark

and deep parts of the ocean, underwater caves and shipwrecks, and playing with her favourite underwater friends like Rays and Urchins.

Today was the first full day of hearings for the inquiry into the dolphins in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary and Port River. We heard from some incredible witnesses today, and though the content of their evidence was quite distressing it certainly highlights why it’s so important that we step up and properly protect our precious dolphins:
- There have been 34 dolphin deaths in the last 5 years, with 17 of those dolphins having sustained blunt force trauma
- Dolphins in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary have some of the highest levels of PFAS in their systems in the world
- Dolphins have been seen swimming around trailing fishing line and other equipment
- Dolphins in the Sanctuary are barely making it into their twenties, when they should be living well into their late thirties
- Red tape is hampering rescue efforts when dolphins are sick or injured in the Sanctuary

I recently had the pleasure to speak with AP about the mermaid community! Here’s the article if you’d like to read what other mermaids and I had to say!

SYDNEY (AP) — There was a pivotal moment in Queen Pangke Tabora’s life that eclipsed all others: It was the moment, she says, when she first slid her legs into a mermaid tail. For the transgender Filipina woman approaching middle age, seeing her legs encased in vibrant, scaly-looking neoprene th...

Happy New Year!

Do you have any New Years resolutions? One of mine is to get back to swimming around with humanfolk more and to revive this Instagram/Facebook account. The pandemic made it pretty difficult to do my mermaid thing but I want to try and post content here more regularly in 2022!

Tell me about you resolutions in the comments.

And from the ocean depths I return to the land.

I know I’ve been a bit absent on social media, but I’ve been isolating from the virus in the deepest part of the ocean and the shellphone reception isn’t great down there!

I hope you all have been keeping well and that we can all swim together soon!

We finally have a new calf spending time in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary. It is important we all do what we can to help keep the little one safe and give it the best chance to survive. If you are out on the water please remember to slow down, keep a look out and not to approach with 150m of a mother dolphin and her calf.
I hope you all have a Wonderful Long Weekend!
Thank you.

Mermaid Salacia likes to do surprise pop-ups along the South Australian coastline. She hopes to spread a message about cleaning up our oceans and ocean conservation. Mermaid Salacia can also be booked for events such as fetes, festivals, or parties. Please message her on facebook or email for all enquiries and visit the website for more information.
