Our story
We are committed to a Pride that is inclusive, diverse, political, antiracist and fun.
We hope to make Pride an annual tradition in Waltham Forest – recently named London Borough of Culture 2019. We will rally and be out, loud and visible. We want to make it clear to all trans, le***an, bisexual, gay, q***r, intersex, nonbinary people of all ethnic, faith and cultural backgrounds - “you are welcome”. This one’s for all of us!
There have been various incidences of physical and verbal abuse toward our community here in Waltham Forest - perhaps it has happened to you or someone you know. This is in the context of a soaring number of attacks on le***an, gay and bisexual people in Britain – a near 80 per cent rise in the past four years. Two in five trans people have experienced a hate crime or incident based on their gender identity in the last 12 months. In response to some local attacks, the LGBT community of Waltham Forest held a protest against homophobia. And from that, LGBT residents were keen to organise a Pride event. So here we are! Always remember that Pride is a protest! We are celebrating and we are making ourselves heard. We demand acceptance and we’re going to get it!
