Two years ago I started filming interviews for a short video about Turkeyfest called “The Underbird.” I used that footage and research on a project that would later become “Because Two Birds Raced.”

I travelled to Worthington. I interviewed more people. I saw the friendships and love between the two towns.

I’m happy to share my master’s thesis with y’all now. Thank you to everyone that I interviewed and supported me through the last couple of years. I hope this captures the love I have for the communities for Cuero and Worthington. 💚🦃

Big news!

The documentary will be available next month on Texas Co-op Power's website. It'll serve as a companion piece to an article that I wrote. So mark those calendars for September 25 when it all goes live online. Thanks again to all those who provided photos, videos, and interviews. I couldn't have done it without y'all. 💚🦃

It’s been a while since I posted an update about the documentary! Right now, it’s sitting at about 25 minutes. I’m wrapping up with editing, and I will defend the project in April. When I can, I’ll be sure to post a copy here for everyone to see.

Truthfully, this might be a project I continue throughout the summer. There are so many wonderful people that can speak to the amazing relationship between Cuero and Worthington. I started this project with the intention to cover the history of Cuero’s turkey-centric festival. Instead, I’ve had the honor of witnessing so many beautiful moments and friendships. I realized THAT is what makes either festival unique. I’d like to thank you all for supporting me and this documentary 🦃💚

If you have any pictures or videos that demonstrate the friendship between Worthington and Cuero and you'd like to see that in my upcoming documentary, Because Two Birds Raced, please send me a message or comment on this thread. It doesn't have to be extravagant--it can be as simple as a Snapchat. Any submissions will be recognized in the credits.

I'm scheduling interviews for the documentary this month. If you are involved in Turkeyfest or would like to share your experiences, please reach out!

The documentary is intended to be a community driven film about Turkeyfest and King Turkey Day.
