A stunning performance from our principal percussionist Matt Baynham at the Glossopdale School concert.
Absolutely played out of his skin and not hard to see why the Royal Welsh College of Music and the RNCM have both offered him a places.

***DERBYSHIRE BAND TO PLAY AT PRESTIGIOUS MUSIC FOR YOUTH PROMS***

A Derbyshire youth concert band has been invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall London as part of the Music for Youth Proms. The 70-strong Dark Peak Concert Band is one of just two wind bands to be selected out of hundreds. The Band is part of Derbyshire Music Education Hub’s local offer, supported by Arts Council England funding.
The Music for Youth Proms is a prestigious two-day annual musical extravaganza highlighting some of the best orchestras, bands, and singers from across the UK. Derbyshire’s own Dark Peak Concert Band were invited to play at the national finals in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall in July after impressing at the regional auditions. The band’s performance in Birmingham caught the attention of the adjudicators and the invitation to perform at the Proms places the group amongst the country’s leading youth wind bands.
Derbyshire County Council’s Music Education Hub is led by the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership, which supports more than 1500 young musicians through seven area music centres across the county.
Councillor Alex Dale, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “It’s incredibly exciting that Dark Peak Concert Band have been invited to play at such a significant event. It’s a testament to the young musicians, the musical directors, and the local volunteers that they’ve been recognised as one of the best in the country. We’re proud to have Derbyshire represented on such a prestigious stage and I wish the band the best of luck with their performance.
“Performing music and being part of a band can have such a positive impact on a young person’s life and I would encourage anyone who’s interested to look up Derbyshire Music Education Hub to find their nearest music centre.”
Principal Musical Director Jeff Snowdon said “It’s 23 years almost to the day since we held the first rehearsal of a new children's band in Glossop. It started in 2000 with just a dozen beginners playing Christmas carols, and the band has now achieved national recognition and a once in a lifetime experience representing Derbyshire on one of the world’s most famous stages.”
“They are a wonderful group of young people, supporting each other and working as a team to the highest professional standards. Each generation of the band has stood on the shoulders of the last and it’s been fantastic to see the level of dedication and commitment which has led to this outstanding achievement.”

The Concert Band performed for dignitaries from Toyota and Derbyshire at a special dinner at the Peak Edge Hotel on Tuesday. The event was to mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning between Toyota and Derbyshire.
Among the guests were the Head of the Toyota Corporation, the Japanese Ambassador, The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and the Leader of Derbyshire Council.
The band did a highly professional job and it was a great dry run in advance of the Royal Albert Hall performance - just two more Fridays and a Saturday rehearsal to go now 🤪🎷🎺
Many thanks to Jayne Briggs and Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership for inviting us.

Lovely singing opportunity for those younger siblings age 4-7 🙂

Our DARK PEAK YOUNG VOICES CHOIR for children 8-13 meets on Tuesdays 5-6.30pm at Glossopdale School

🎶⭐️STARTING THIS WEEK!! ⭐️🎶

I CANNOT wait to get singing with all the children who’ve booked on for our community choir this Thursday!!

🎤Singing is ridiculously good for you, in every way, and children feel the effects just as adults do. It’s so important, and I’m so excited to be able to facilitate this for some of our local children!
Whether your child is homeschooled, travelling from the outskirts of Glossopdale, or going to a school round the corner from my music room, they will be entirely welcome in this community choir 😍

👀I’ve got a handful of spaces left - the more the merrier so book your child a space now!

❗️Emails will be sent out on Monday with some information and sign up forms so keep your eyes peeled 🤩

It's National Heritage Week and so interesting to learn all about the history of our home, the Victoria Hall.
Here is a short video about restoring the building to its former glory.

COMMUNITY HUB - THEN AND NOW

Music

The first event within Victoria Hall was a concert by Glossop-dale Philharmonic Society. Since then, music has been an integral part of the activities of the hall.

There have been concerts by local societies, local bands playing at balls and the hall has been a regular venue for local clubs such as Glossop Jazz Club. There have also been concerts by professional companies including the Halle Orchestra.

Victoria Hall is currently regularly used by Dark Peak Music for practice and to hold concerts and events.

If you want to experience music in Victoria Hall you can join us at our concert tomorrow night. Glossop Ukulele & Occasional Sax will be playing. The event is on 7pm-10pm. Tickets are £5 and available by contacting
[email protected]

At last we are allowed to release the news that the Dark Peak Concert Band has been invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall in the Music for Youth Proms on Tuesday 14th November.

The Royal Albert Hall is probably the most famous concert hall in the world and it will be the experience of a lifetime to be on stage in this iconic auditorium.

The ensemble is one of just two wind orchestras selected nationally for the MfY Proms and follows their performance in Symphony Hall in July.

Huge congratulation to all the players on this tremendous achievement.
