Our season finale on Sat, Oct 12, 4:30pm PDT features The Avanti Ensemble, which will perform two world premiere performances as part of Stonywood's first classical music ensemble.

Why would composes choose Avanti Ensemble for their premieres? The Ensemble’s members have vast experience and have played in venues throughout the world; from Disney Hall to Toronto’s Sony Centre to Carnegie Hall. Here in California, the ensemble musicians have performed with the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, California Philharmonic, Pasadena Symphony, New West Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, California Philharmonic, Pasadena Pops, Opera San Luis Obispo, West Coast Symphony, Hollywood Concert Orchestra, Redlands Symphony, and Pacific Symphony.

And now for something totally different: classical music with the Avanti Ensemble on Sat., Oct 12, 4:30pm PDT.

The Avanti Ensemble has performed nationally and internationally to critical acclaim. Violinists Tamsen Beseke and Robert Miskey, violist Louise Brown, violist, and cellist Stephen Green perform a wide and colorful repertoire featuring music from the 1600s to present day world premieres. The Ensemble's members have vast performing experiences, having played in venues throughout the world; from Disney Hall to Toronto's Sony Center to Carnegie Hall.

Not only is the Avanti Ensemble the first classical ensemble to play at Stonywood, but they have been asked by not one but TWO women composers to perform world premieres:

Violinist, composer, and teacher Kirstin Fife’s “The Relentless Moon” - inspired by one restless night when a very large, full moon didn’t let her rest until “The Relentless Moon” was born!

Composer and brain scientist Elaine Bearer’s “Moon Mirror” - a newly-orchestrated composition inspired by verse written by mother, Dorothy Hughes, late at night as she stood at the window of her dark little kitchen looking up at the moon.

Sometimes a wish becomes a reality. This Saturday’s concert is one of those rare examples.

We have been Renaissance Faire fans for years. Each time we go, we look for the Poxy Boggards and/or The Merry Wives of Windsor. We always dreamed of them playing at Stonywood and in our 15th season it’s actually happening.

The show is a bit different. The musicianship will be there, but even more so is the humor and the sheer joy and exuberance that we find with them each time we go to Faire.

Willman Morcillo’s World Music Experience performs on Saturday, July 20, 4:30pm PDT

Willman Morcillo’s musical journey started in his hometown and mecca of salsa music and dancing, Cali, Colombia. Raised on the magical sounds and vibrant spirit of Latin music, his love of guitar would eventually lead him to Led Zeppelin and other big sounding guitar power bands.

Rumba Flamenco would be his next spiritual / musical journey and combined with his hard rock and metal roots, he started to fashion his own unique sound into what he calls, “a fiery fusion of World/Latin/Rock/Pop and Dance. Whatever the weather, the musical temperature is guaranteed to be hot.
