Celebrating weddings and special occasions is amazing. For 2022 I want to do something even more special and to make sure that everything I do is more sustainable. 🦉💜⁣

A humanist philosophy is that we are responsible for making the world a better place. Looking after our planet is a priority. We have an obligation to future generations - human and nonhuman - and I want to play my part in making the world a happier and being part of the solutions in living a ensuring a sustainable existence. 🌏💕⁣

Northern Ireland is still one of the least wooded regions in Europe. We have 8.7% woodland compared with up to 13% in the rest of the UK. 🌳🦉⁣

From 2022 I will make sure that a native tree is planted for every couple I marry. We will be creating a haven for wildlife one wedding at a time. 💜🦊

Here's hoping we can all enjoy a happy, healthy, prosperous, fun and much more sociable 2022!

International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on 20th March. So with that in mind, here are 10 reasons for humanists in Northern Ireland to feel positive about 2021!

1. The Census is highly likely to show more people in Northern Ireland declaring themselves as 'no religion' than ever before.
https://humanism.org.uk/news/

2. A survey showed that over 95% of all Humanists UK members who responded have said they will take a Covid-19 vaccine as soon as it is offered (or that they already have done). Science and reason continue to lead the way forward.
https://humanism.org.uk/2021/01/28/95-of-humanists-uk-members-say-they-will-get-vaccinated-against-covid-19/

3. The DUP's misguided attempt to deny women the right to an abortion in Northern Ireland is doomed to failure, after the UK government said it will intervene to ensure women's rights are protected.
https://humanism.org.uk/2021/03/19/uk-government-to-intervene-to-guarantee-northern-ireland-abortion-provision-reports/

4. Our Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network is succeeding at reaching new places all the time, as we provide high-quality pastoral, spiritual, and specific non-religious care in hospitals and prisons.
https://humanism.org.uk/community/humanist-pastoral-support/

5. Last week brought the announcement of the first Catholic primary school ever to convert to an Integrated school. We continue to train and provide schools speakers who are welcomed across the country to talk about humanist beliefs and values to children of all ages:
https://humanism.org.uk/education/schoolspeakers/

6. Our face-to-face events like social brunches, fascinating talks by guest speakers and campaigning at events like Pride should all have returned by the end of the year. We can't wait!
https://humanism.org.uk/events/our-events/

7. Membership of Northern Ireland Humanists has increased rapidly from 230 members and supporters in 2016, to over 2,500 today... and we're growing all the time!
https://humanism.org.uk/support-us/

8. There will more humanist wedding ceremonies here than in any previous year:
https://humanism.org.uk/ceremonies/non-religious-weddings/

9. ... and that includes a huge number of same-sex weddings, now that they are finally legal in Northern Ireland. Yay! https://humanism.org.uk/ceremonies/find-a-celebrant/

10. Our work is far from done, but throughout 2021 we will continue to campaign on:

- repealing Northern Ireland's archaic blasphemy laws
- reforming the education system to be inclusive and reflective of the society we live in
- supporting assisted dying
- ensuring that every non-religious person has fair and equal access to every service they need

All in all, it's a good time to be a humanist!

💜 From the archives, today I couldn’t resist sharing this lovely pic of my gorgeous nieces. It makes me really happy whenever I think of this day⁣

💜 The celebration was at Larchfield Estate and the date was on World Humanist Day which was entirely by coincidence ⁣

💜 It was a joyful day filled with sunshine and family. Love was definitely in the air⁣

💜 What I thought was really clever was that the speeches took place in the Courtyard before the meal⁣

💜 The rest of the evening was left for celebration and dancing the night away⁣

💜 This was the first time I’d been to Larchfield Estate. ⁣

💜 I’ll be back soon in 2021 to marry some amazing couples including Nikki and Gary in May. Can’t wait.⁣

🦋 Yesterday was learn more about butterflies day, and since it was also Mothers’ Day I was preoccupied with being pampered.⁣

🦋 My partner in crime Jim is an entomologist (expert on butterflies and moths) when we got married our wedding cake was covered in sugar butterflies. ⁣

🦋 Sadly most met with a sticky end and were mangled on the journey from the car to the cake table! ⁣

🦋 Momentarily I considered cancelling the wedding - then I remembered I was marrying Jim and not the cake! ⁣

🦋 My biggest tip is to remember why you want to spend the rest of your life with someone and celebrate that. Don’t swear the small stuff. Everything else is well, the icing on the cake!⁣

🦋 If only we’d had some more butterflies like these I spotted on Etsy by . So pretty.

Day 12: In Use⁣

💜 Okay, I’m super excited to share this, and I’m sneaking it into the in use prompt⁣

💜 I’m incredibly chuffed that the J from Janni is combined with the H of Happy Days. It’s not really part of my logo but I totally love it. Good times. 😍⁣

💜 Wishing you a happy weekend xx 😘⁣

💜 Let me know if there’s something that you use that brings you happiness each time you see it 😀

Day 11: Portrait⁣

Helloooo! It’s me the face of Happy Days NI, the person who’ll rock up for your big day or celebration script in hand and officiate! 🎉⁣

Portrait? Yikes! I thought I’d mix things up a bit, and create a work of art instead. 😉⁣

Since I get to meet so many amazing people and to hear their love stories and significant moments, I thought in today’s post it would be fun to share a few things about me so that we can get to know each other a little better! Let’s go shall we? 😉⁣

- I have a gin collection, “currently” around 40 (the numbers keep changing). I’ve rarely met a gin I don’t like, but Tanquary No 10 is my favourite and Di**le Gin is a close second.🍹⁣

- I don’t like buttons (also known as koumpounophobia). My phobia is a bit strange lol so I don’t often admit to it. If buttons are loose, too big, or too many I feel queasy! I’m improving with age - I even wore a cardi yesterday hahaha. 🙂⁣

Controversial: I LOVE action movies. My favourites are the Fast and Furious franchise. Don’t judge me. I unwind with high adrenaline films.⁣

- When I was a kid I REALLY wanted a sister. I grew up with 3 big brothers. I was adopted, and wondered if I had a sister “out there”. I do! I’m in touch with two of my sisters from other misters. Turns out I’m the middle child now lol 😛⁣

- I’m an eBay addict. I’ve a passion for clothes and buying them this way means I can have champagne tastes on a lemonade budget. Whoop. Everything I’m wearing from top to toe was sourced on eBay. 🙌⁣

Have you got any weird facts to share today? ⁣

💜It’s being married to my husband that inspires me to be a wedding celebrant
💜Sharing life with my best friend brings more happiness and contentment than I ever imagined possible
💜That’s what I want for everyone else to enjoy too
💜Love you Jim, thanks for making life so much better sharing our adventures together x

Day 10: Small Detail ⁣

🌻 Taking the challenge I am excited to share the special moments that being a creator brings. 🌸⁣

🌻 There’s lots of small detail I could share. I love how all the little details combine to make something truly memorable. 💫💫💫⁣

🌻 What’s filling me with happiness at the moment is this card by . So I’ve chosen to share it as a small detail because it encapsulates l what I’m determined to accomplish. Something thoughtful, sustainable and beautiful. 🌟⁣

🌻 This year has been a tough. So much loss, too many plans being dashed or chopped and changed. This card lifts my heart. 💓⁣

🌻 I want to send the cheer out into the world, so I’ve got these lovely cards (and some other designs too) to to say a big ‘thank you and I’m thinking about you’ to my lovely couples and to those families dealing with loss of loved ones who asked me to create a celebration of life. 💐⁣

🌻 I’m hoping that this Easter Bunny card will lift spirits too. Spring is on its way and a new chapter will begin. 🌱🌱🌱⁣

🌻 What’s special about these cards is they are plantable. Pretty flowers can grow and they are bee friendly too. 🐝🐝🐝⁣

🌻 The whole idea fills me with happiness. Now that I know about plantable cards I’m a total convert! 🌱🌱🌱

Day 9: Learning Curve⁣

💜 My biggest learning curve has been that it’s always possible to follow your dream, there may be set backs and hurdles but eventually you’ll get there. ⁣

💜 For couples dealing with the stress and adventure of changes to their wedding plans, my biggest tip is to think about the THREE things that will make your wedding special.⁣

💜 These THREE things are different for every couple, but once you have decided what these are, it brings everything else into perspective and can help to answer all the other questions. Bringing simplicity to complexity.⁣

💜 For myself, I’ve been tackling technology to make life easier for my couples and me! Huge learning curve for me hahaha!⁣

💜 During lockdown I’ve:⁣
💜 Redesigned my website from top to toe⁣
💜 Developed an online‘Getting to Know You’ questionnaire ⁣
💜 Created a Couple Zone jam packed with tips and advice ⁣
💜 Started a blog ⁣

💜 Loving the challenge of learning all this.⁣
💜 Appreciating all the inspiration and advice from friends, family and colleagues.⁣
💜 Big thank you to Phil my technical guru 🙂⁣

Day 8: Work in Progress ⁣

By very happy coincidence my work in progress is welcoming two new couples who have each booked their wedding celebration with me today! 💕⁣

One booking is for June this year, and the other is for June next 2022. Whoop! ⁣

One couple has chosen to marry on a beach, and one couple feel a forest is more them. Aren’t both choices just fantastic? I can hardly wait.⁣

Three cheers for Northern Ireland where couples can now choose to have their dream wedding location. 🎉🎉🎉⁣

Together we will create a totally amazing celebration that’s uniquely personal.💜⁣

Every time I am booked, I do a happy dance 💃⁣

I am just so delighted. 😀⁣

Being a humanist celebrant is definitely the best job in the world! 🥰⁣

A huge big thank you to all my lovely amazing couples, and to my fabulous celebrant colleagues every one of whom is a source of support and inspiration. 💖🙏💖

Just hanging with my boy! 💜💜💜⁣

Rudy joined our lives seven years ago today. 🎉⁣

My dog adores absolutely everyone (except our postman). Totally unfair, our postman is a lovely guy!⁣

If ever I have writer’s block, Rudy is always there for a cuddle or a walk 💕🐾⁣

Rudy is a cockapoo. He doesn’t seem to know that, because he leaves tufts of ginger hair everywhere. We checked his DNA and not only are both his mum and dad cockapoos but so are his grandparents! Totally cockapoo - totally gorgeous 🐶💕🐶💕🐶💕🐶💕 xx

Day 5 Newest Make⁣

I am excited to share with you my new logo for Happy Days NI Humanist Ceremonies. It is based on a lotus flower and also entwining hearts.⁣

This is my newest make, my logo - it feels “me” and symbolises the service that I want to give to my lovely clients.⁣

It says thank you, but also stands for beauty, passion, generosity. wisdom, knowledge, and marital happiness amongst other things. ⁣

In Western cultures, the lotus bloom can represent the search for the meaning of life. Since humanists believe we make our own meaning in life it seems just perfect.⁣

I love that my lotus flower is made with entwining hearts, because I’m certain that the most important thing in life is to love and be loved.⁣

The lotus flower is special to me. It symbolises that beauty and strength can exist anywhere. and can also signify compassion and sympathy, which fits for my work as a humanist funeral celebrant. ⁣

Fitting for weddings and namings as well I think. The lotus is sometimes called the Flower of Life and holds an association with the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.⁣

Even if it didn’t have all of those connections what makes it even more significant to me is that I have a half-sister (whom I have not yet met in person, she lives half a world away from me which makes meeting up tricky).⁣

We discovered recently that we both share a love the symmetry and symbolism of the lotus flower: that it emerges from muddy waters; rising from mud to bloom in the darkness and radiate into the world. ⁣

I think life can be like that, sometimes hard, but always worth celebrating. All of us have rites of passage that mark significant moments in our lives. ⁣

Let’s make the most of life and love! ⁣

On My Desk⁣

Taking this prompt literally. Here’s my desk.⁣

I am a Calvin and Hobbs fan, and the complete works with all of the comic strips also doubles as a handy shelf for my laptop! It lifts it to just the right height for video chats with my lovely couples, 💕⁣

I’m a visual thinker so I have a memory board close to hand so that I can jot things down and not forget. 🤔⁣

The flowers arrived in the post for me yesterday- an amazing birthday gift from my husband and kids. I am super delighted that there are lots of tulips (my favourite flowers). 🌷🌷🌷⁣

Whenever I am at my desk I light a candle....they help get me into the zone of to create my masterpieces. Today I’m putting the finishing touches to the fabulous Mike and Rachel’s wedding. 🎉💜🎉⁣

My big pink diary holds all the deets I need to write my scripts. I can be a bit scatterbrained sometimes, and so I simplified everything. If I keep all my notes in one place I’ll be able to find them again...and with a bright pink diary it’s always easy to find hahaha. 💖⁣

Just at the moment I have a brilliant book that was that was recommended to me. Thank goodness. I love it! ‘Be Wild Be Free’ lifts my heart, it’s a mash-up of poetry, fables, comic fiction and whimsical watercolour illustrations. Every time I leaf through it I have a great big grin on my face. 😀⁣

I have tried Humanist UK’s what kind of humanist are you - and I am a hedonist humanist lol 🤣 I think that fits well. I love that my desk is filled with lots of things that make me happy. The only thing missing is a chocolate bar 🍫 ⁣

Day 3 - Beliefs & Values 💖⁣

Ahem, well I am a humanist and I'll tell you why. I have always had joy and wonder about the natural world. When I was little I was sure that I would find out how to talk to animals just like Doctor Dolittle. ⁣

From a very young age I decided to be vegetarian. More recently I have gone the whole hog (figure of speech lol) and become a vegan. 🌱🌱🌱⁣

I've always had an interest in world religions but I personally have never had a belief in anything supernatural. Humanism fits, is a non-religious way of life with a passion for making the most of life. Apparently it's a one in 400 trillion chance that I am even here. That's worth celebrating! 🎉🎉🎉⁣

I am a full-time celebrant. It gives me real happiness to create amazing rites of passage and celebrations. I put my heart and soul into creating a really special ceremony. 💕⁣

I believe your ceremony should be:⁣

🌟REAL - I think it should be honest and authentic to you and what's important to you.⁣

🌟HAPPY - I know that we'll have all the feels during a great ceremony, but the most important I believe is joy!⁣

🌟FUN - a light-hearted and enjoyable ceremony.⁣

🌟FEEL-GOOD - people may not remember all the words, but they'll remember how they felt and my biggest hope is that everyone will feel happy, loved and valued. ⁣

My aim is to live with kindness. Mostly I succeed, but I'm reliably informed that it's not a great idea to speak to me first thing in the morning until I've had my first cup of tea! 😉

The older I get the more certain I am, that what makes life really meaningful is the relationships that we have with our family and friends. ⁣

Looking forward to the Summer time when I can meet up with all the very important people in my life and give them a great big hug⁣

Meanwhile, here's a big shout out to my lovely other half Jim, who gives the best cuddles in the world. Something he has passed on to our kids. Lucky me! 💜

02/03/2021

Hello all! I thought I'd jump in to the prompt for Day 2: Style. ⁣

This could mean multiple things especially when I'm absolutely crazy about clothes haha. I’ll touch on the elements of style that come to mind. I have the perfect job because I get to dress up for every wedding I am officiating at. Whoop. But the most important thing is to create a ceremony that is meaningful and personal to my lovely couples and celebrates the wonderful people they are.⁣

I was at a marketing event recently for people who work in weddings, and they said the one thing never to say is 'your wedding, your way' but actually that's the key to everything that I do! I create a wedding celebration ceremony that reflects the couple and what's important to them.⁣

All of my ceremonies are different, some are very traditional, whilst others are laugh-out-loud, some ceremonies are lavish and some celebrations are small and intimate occasions. What they all share in common is the passion and commitment to making them happy days where everyone feels welcome and valued. It is really important to me that I create and deliver on the big day!⁣

Being a celebrant my job titles are endless. I’m the writer, photographer, marketing team (ta dah), stylist, photographer, accountant, and the list goes on. Having my own business Happy Days NI means putting my heart and soul into every script I write and ceremony I officiate at. ⁣

Looking forward to sharing more over the next month of ⁣

Today is Wedding Planning Day⁣

How is your planning going?⁣

Planning a wedding in the last year has been particularly difficult. So here's a big shout out to all the couples who have been planning their weddings in the face of a worldwide pandemic.⁣

My biggest tip is to think of the three things that are most important that will make you both happy on your wedding day. If you have those three things everything else will fall into place!⁣

You know what else I'm going to say? One of the most important things to do is to choose a wedding celebrant who "gets" you. Someone who will understand what you are wanting in your ceremony and works with you to turn that dream into reality. ⁣

The secret to that is to take the time to get to know you,so that the ceremony that is all about the feels, and reflects you. You as a couple. You as individuals. And celebrates that, and what is important to you. You'll have a ceremony that is totally unique and personal to you.⁣

Getting married is very serious, but your wedding ceremony doesn't have to be the boring part. Let your ceremony shape the rest of your day.⁣

Humanist ceremonies are becoming more and more popular in Northern Ireland because not only is each one unique, but you can also get married where and when you want in the way that you want! ⁣

If you would like some help with planning your perfect ceremony, get in touch. You can see if I'm the right celebrant for you, and I'm not your cup of tea, I'll be able to point you in the right direction of one of my lovely colleagues. ⁣

Give me a call on 07890861690.⁣

Brand Introduction⁣

I am so excited to introduce Happy Days NI to you. Happy Days, just like the name says, is all about creating your happy day. If I make you happy then I'm happy too! ⁣

I offer non-religious humanist ceremonies to celebrate your big day and mark special moments in life.⁣

If you have wondered what humanism is, it's a belief in the natural world based on humanity, and compassion. We believe we should make the most of the life we have, and make the world a better and happier place for ourselves and everyone else that shares the planet with us.⁣

Part of that is celebrating all those special moments in life. Creating happy memories for you and your loved ones. Yes! I definitely have the best job in the world.⁣

I write and deliver amazing ceremonies to mark occasions, A celebration of life and love. What can be better? If you have a special occasion to mark, get in touch and I'll be glad to create your happy day!
