This post is for all of my small business homies who are either a sole-prop or single member LLC!

As I'm sure you know, watching a big portion of your profits get taken by the IRS isn't, well, awesome. It might be time to consider taking the S-Corp election!

This was something I was hesitant to do myself, because there is some more backend work involved with an S-Corp to make sure your business stays compliant. This is where Collective steps in!

They handle everything --and I mean literally everything-- you need to do to run your S-Corp by the books. Payroll, bookkeeping, filing your business taxes.

I just got finished getting set up as an S-Corp with Collective, and the process was incredibly easy. I crunched some numbers, and it's astounding how much I'm going to save in taxes.

If you want to take the plunge, and keep some more money in your business bank account, sign up for Collective using the link below, and receive your first month of membership FREE!

This is it. The moment any engaged couple has been waiting for. The moment in time where they legally --or in the eyes of a higher being-- become newlyweds. No pressure getting these next 15-60 minutes on video, right?

There are no do overs or takey backsies if a wedding videographer messes up filming this part of the wedding day. Here's how I make sure I don't fumble at the 1-yard line when it comes to capturing my clients' wedding ceremonies!

How long do you think she'd been waiting to get married? 🤣

Where's one place you should consider eloping, and why is it South Dakota?

"Hey, Nathaniel. What the heck are these so-called story sessions you offer?"

I'm glad you asked!

Whenever I have the chance to give my clients a wedding video that's more than just a fancily edited recap of their wedding day, I'm gonna take it. I want my couples' wedding films to not only capture the events of their wedding, but also tell the story of how they ended up at the altar, putting rings on each other's fingers.

A lot of times, the stars align where through the couple's vows, soundbites from the officiant, and reception toasts, I'm able to craft a narrative of my client's journey to their wedding day. That's not always going to be the case, though. So, what better way to make sure I'm able to do that by hearing the couple's story directly from them!?

Whenever one of my couples says "hey, that's so cool you offer this FOR FREE. We want to do it," they're so much fun. It's always an amazing time getting to hang out with my clients before their wedding day.

This reel might be spicy. It might not be. But everything I say, I say out of love. Let me provide a little more explanation that couldn't fit into a minute.

Essentially, everything I talk about in this video stems from wedding videographers feel like they need to film certain things because the photographer is taking photos of it. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

Couples don't pay us wedding videographers to give them a wedding film that's essentially a carbon copy of their wedding photo album! They want to see their wedding day come back to life, and what does a boring shot of a couple's wedding invite, or the bride's dress hanging in front of a window do to accomplish that goal? It's our job to capture live authenticity of staged rigidness.

But if any wedding videographers just take one thing away from this reel, please, for the love of God, stop filming people when they're standing still and posing for the photographer. I beg you.

3 Things Wedding Videographers Should STOP Filming

No matter how talented a wedding videographer is, or how long they've been shooting weddings for, there are a few things I've noticed a lot of them do that don't do a gosh darn thing to ultimately serve their couples. Check out what I *strongly* implore wedding videographers to do away with before they film their next wedding.

And S/O Katie Mary Photography - Rapid City SD for letting me use a couple of her photos to help me illustrate one of my points!

It's hard to give a speech at your brother's wedding reception in front of a bunch of people, okay?

Let's talk sound! Here's how I record audio for my couples' wedding films 🎤

Don't mind me sharing one of the best father/daughter first looks I've had the privilege of filming 🥲. If this doesn't warm your heart on this icy cold day, go see a cardiologist.

My favorite piece of gear to bring to a wedding isn’t my drone, or any of my Sony full-frame cameras. It’s this crappy home video camera straight out of the 2000s.

I picked this little guy up at the start of last year, and it’s really helped me realize and bring to fruition the kinds of wedding films I want to make. I want to embrace authenticity over staged; real moments over perfectly directed “cinematic” shots.

I obviously still use my fancy 4K mirrorless cameras to film most of a couple’s wedding day. But there are certain situations where the $150 camcorder is going to do a much better job at capturing the essence of a moment.

This is the only way I film party buses and bar-hopping now, and the results are even better when I don’t use it. I give this bad boy to the couple, or let the wedding party pass it around.

From cocktail hour, sweet in-between moments the groom might have with his mom, to just giving it to the couple during portait sessions and saying “go nuts”, the sincerity of a couple’s wedding day is brought out in a way that can’t be matched.

I still don't know what a "lil yachty" is, and at this point, I'm too afraid to ask.

As I'm sure you all can imagine, I heard Shaboozey's "A Bar Song" at quite a few weddings last year. But this groomsman's graceful moves just stole the show 🤣
