Shannon Vallor, Baillie Gifford Professor in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence, University of Edinburgh gave an incredibly important talk at Turing Fest 2023.
She addressed the challenges of the dynamic AI ecosystem- from material, to tech, and corporate ecologies- which need to be sustained for a healthy industry and world, as well as working through the areas which need urgent restructuring and how we can create stable, responsible AI tech. 💪
ℹ️Professor Vallor’s research maps the ethical challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies, and she advises the government and industry on the #ethical design and use of #AI.
She is Co-Director of the UKRI’s Enabling a Responsible AI Ecosystem research programme, author of Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting and editor of the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Technology. She is the recipient of multiple awards for teaching, scholarship and public engagement, including the 2015 World Technology Award in Ethics. She is also a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute.
