“What really motivates human beings?”

Sara Kathleen Gordon GM in Consumer Health, Zoe talks us through the hidden motivations behind people’s decisions using her time with Flo as a case study.

The “when” focuses on the situation.
The “want” focuses on the motivation.
And “the can” focuses on the outcome.

By listening to customers, Flo figured out how to best leverage the app to better serve their customers motivations, taking the science and bringing it to the forefront.

She challenges the audience: what insights are you taking away each month? What is the cost of each insight? If you’re not getting any insights, she says, then you are wasting money. 🥲🥲

“You cannot simply ignore what you are taking from the material world in order to build AI”🔥 Shannon Vallor, Baillie Gifford Professor in the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence, University of Edinburgh gave an incredibly important talk at Turing Fest 2023. She addressed the challenges of the dynamic AI ecosystem- from material, to tech, and corporate ecologies- which need to be sustained for a healthy industry and world, as well as working through the areas which need urgent restructuring and how we can create stable, responsible AI tech. 💪 ℹ️Professor Vallor’s research maps the ethical challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies, and she advises the government and industry on the #ethical design and use of #AI. She is Co-Director of the UKRI’s Enabling a Responsible AI Ecosystem research programme, author of Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting and editor of the Oxford Handbook of Philosophy of Technology. She is the recipient of multiple awards for teaching, scholarship and public engagement, including the 2015 World Technology Award in Ethics. She is also a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute.
