Easter Island Ultramarathon entries open this Sunday at 8pm 🤩
Last chance to get on the waiting list! 40 places available.
Event date: 7th - 13th May 2026

If you've ever wanted to travel to the most remote island on Earth, this is your opportunity.

The stone Moai statues of Easter Island (Rapa Nui) are world-famous and shrouded in mystery. This tiny speck of land is located 3700km off the coast of South America, adrift in the South Pacific. It is the very definition of remote. Yet a warm welcome awaits visitors from the local Rapa Nui population who are rightly proud of their emblematic Pacific island history and culture.

Our bespoke itinerary features a specially-formatted adventure challenge in the shape of a stunning 50km ultramarathon route. In order to see the very best of the island, we have crafted specially-formatted guided runs and hikes on either side of our ultramarathon to allow you to see the world-famous historical sights (and many more off the beaten track locations, besides). This is a completely unique way to traverse and explore this magical place.

You can check out all the event details ahead of the launch over at www.ratrace.com/easter-island

Entries open this Sunday (28th July) at 8pm to the waiting list. If you've not got your name down already, head over to www.ratrace.com/waiting-list

Madagascar is situated 300 miles east off the coast of Mozambique, famous for its wildlife, particularly lemurs, chameleons and unique flora and fauna such as the huge baobab trees. The landscape is a mixture of jungle, farmland, rice paddies and towering granite mountains.

Our brand new adventure allows you to experience the very best of the Madagascan landscape from Summit to Sea. The objective is to reach the summit of Pic Boby at a height of 2,658m in the Andringitra National Park over the first two days then travel East under foot and pack raft through multiple terrains including jungle before reaching the Matutanana river. Here you will get into pack rafts for an exhilarating rapid fuelled adventure which will take you out towards the Indian ocean.

The Top 5 Highlights of the brand new Trans Africa Coast to Coast from Head of Expeditions Abbi 🐘🦒🦓

1. Cycling the full width of Africa
Cycling coast to coast across the width of Africa from the Atlantic to the Indian ocean is a very rare and special feeling. It feels like the kind of adventure that I have watched other explorers complete, it feels like a dream to have created a route and now to have completed it along with 9 other test pilots is phenomenal. The last day of the cycle was an emotional one, the route is not easy that day with some high elevation to reach the top of the Jozini plateau. At this point you can see and smell the ocean. Nothing can beat the feeling of knowing that there is nothing to stop you from making it to the finish line.

2. The route
The route is phenomenal, spanning 3000km’s and traversing 4 countries. Each day the scenery changes, leaving the skeleton coast on day one, entering the sand dunes of the Kalahari, crossing Savannah and then the Okavango delta, before heading into the mountain of Eswatini, entering the game reserves of South Africa and finishing at the Indian ocean. The gravel riding is second to none, most days topped the best day of cycling in my lifetime, and I have ridden some miles!

3. Seeing lots of wildlife
Giraffes and zebra are common sights along some of the route, we were also lucky to see elephants, antelopes, buffalo, monkeys, baboons and many beautiful birds as we cycled across the continent. The main highlight being that of two male white Rhinos. After the longest day of cycling on the event (203km) we arrived at camp to be scooped by safari trucks. These trucks took us to where some Rhinos had been last spotted. As the sun went down, we were able to sit and watch two male white Rhinos from about a 15 metre distance. It was a remarkable end to the day.

4. The food
Like all good expeditions there are still some days when we had dehydrated expedition meals. However, for the majority of the time the food was fantastic, fresh, hearty, and plentiful. Using local produce and locally sourced meat and game. A big highlight was the Malva pudding, a very delicious dessert similar to that of sticky toffee pudding, served with ice-cream or custard. The team ended up requesting it from the restaurants most evenings as it was enjoyed so much.

5. Eswatini itself
All of the 4 countries had their own highlights, however Eswatini (formally known as Swaziland) was my favourite. The terrain is green and mountainous, the gravel cycling is at its best over these two days in the country. The people are also extremely friendly and polite, always smiling, wanting to chat and ask questions about what they thought was an unachievable journey. Most of the local people had never left the tiny country of Eswatini, for them what we had done was out of this world.

"Panama Coast to Coast: An event and adventure of a lifetime not to be taken lightly. There are no words that can truly describe the nine days of tarmac, jungle and water you get to experience on Panama Coast to Coast. However hard you think it might be, it's harder. However much you trained you should have done more, and however much pre-admin you did your kit could have been better.

Be under no illusion this adventure race will live with you forever and provide you with a sense of achievement that will last a lifetime. The support and event staff were excellent and the location is unmatched.

I urge anybody looking to test themselves beyond their limits to book this event straight away."

When your trail run looks like this 😍

POV you've just cycled 3000km across Africa on the Rat Race Trans Africa Test Pilot 😍

If you've got your eye on our Easter Island Ultra, check out the video from our Test Pilot outing below to get a sneak peek at what's in store 👇

"I had the absolute best time on the recent Easter Island 'test pilot' trip — I haven't finished processing it!

Part of a small, likeminded team of runners supervised by James and Jim from Rat Race (and accompanied behind the camera by the uber-talented James Appleton), we were able to explore pretty much all of one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. Truly a bucket-list experience.

With a packed itinerary of hiking and running (largely accompanied by two extraordinary local guides) plus ample free time to explore Hanga Roa, the main town, this was a well-organised and perfectly executed trip." Ellie, Easter Island Test Pilot

Launching in July for May 2026: Easter Island Ultra 🗿

"Rat Race are fantastic at organising events, and at Easter Island, they truly showcased their epic skills. This adventure is perfect if you want to mix culture, magical discoveries, stunning nature, and fun running. There were surprises at every turn, and I loved them all, from cave explorations to snacking on wild fruit.
James, the race organiser, found the most amazing local guides who gave us a unique look at the island and its secrets. In short, I’d do this again in a heartbeat. Can’t wait for my next Rat Race Adventure!" - Beatriz, Easter Island Test Pilot

Even making it to Rapa Nui is an adventure given the distance from just about anywhere else on Earth; and the reward for any visitor is richly rewarding to experience the elemental nature of this magical place. To then run a specially-formatted adventure Ultra route on the island, plus see the world-famous historical sights (and many more off the beaten track locations, besides) on our specially-formatted guided runs and hikes, is next-level. This is an utterly unique way to see this utterly unique island.

Patagonia. A dream destination worthy of every adventurer’s Bucket List.

"I participated in the Glacier to Glacier event in December 2023 and in one word it was awesome! Of course the stunning environment of the famous glaciers, mountains but also the steppes and the National Park through which I cycled almost by myself in complete silence, are inspiring enough. The event is tough, especially because of the ever present wind (although we were lucky to have a decent wind compared to the usual force), but the hardship makes the experience even better.

The Rat Race crew was very well organized, giving (safety) briefings every day in the evening and in the morning before the start. They are a friendly and experienced bunch and they did all they could to make the experience for the participants as good as it could be.

This was my third event with the company and I am absolutely a huge fan of what they do and how they do it! Their experiences are definitely worth the title of ‘bucket list adventures’ and I am looking forward to my 4th event! Keep up the good work guys!"

Stepping foot onto the frozen ice of Lake Khovsgol for the first time is both completely daunting yet utterly exciting 😍

Lake Khovsgol lies in a remote corner of North-Western Mongolia. It is one of 17 ancient lakes in the World over 2 million years-old and it contains the World’s purest fresh water.

In winter, the ice freezes across its entire near-100-mile length to a depth of over a metre thick and here lies our adventure, The Mongol 100.

"What an incredible experience! My first trip to the Arctic and my first Rat Race Adventure.

The event was expertly organised down to the last detail and we were all kept fully informed with detailed safety briefings before each days activities. I cannot praise the team highly enough for not only how well they looked after us all but how they worked as a team. The event was challenging but manageable with encouragement always offered from the team to give you a boost. The scenery and surrounding were out of this world. The accommodation and food was really good. The camping night was definitely character building but to absolutely be embraced as part of the experience. The guides were outstanding and all the kit we used was extremely good quality. I have memories to last a lifetime and am already planning my next adventure!!"
