Easy guide to identifying Monarchs ↓

I often get this question in my DMs during Monarch season, so I wanted to reshare with everyone how to distinguish between them. ☺️

Figuring out the differences may seem tricky at first, but once you know these key characteristics, it’s easy!

BLACK DOTS
Male monarchs have two distinct black dots on their hindwings, which are scent glands used to release pheromones that attract females. Female monarchs don’t have these dots.

VEINS
Males have slightly thinner black veins on their wings, while females have thicker black veins that are more spread out. The tips of the female wings are also darker.

SIZE
Males are usually slightly larger than females, but this isn’t always reliable. The black dots are the most distinctive feature!

Hi friends, it’s Shannon with something important to share:

After a lot of thought and reflection, I’ve decided to step away from the business partnership at Nature’s Parlor. This wasn’t an easy choice, but it’s the right one for me right now.

But, here’s the silver lining—I’m not going far! My passion for teaching and sharing my love for plants and floral design is stronger than ever. 

It’s just time for me to pivot. 🔀

As for workshops, they are still happening and will continue to be in Harford County! I’m super excited to share the new locations for our upcoming Blooms & Brunches. Keep an eye out for more info in the next few days!

So what does this mean?

💐 Workshops will continue, just at new locations with other local small businesses and farms! Already scheduled Blooms & Brunches will still happen same date & time. I will be sharing the new locations very soon! 

🌸 I’m working on creating a mobile flower bar for special events, celebrations, and parties! I’m thinking of calling it The Daisy Trolley—what do you think?! It will be ready this weekend! Can’t wait to show you.

👩🏻‍💻 I’ll continue to share my love and knowledge for all things gardening, florals and nature related via email and on social media. 

🌿 I am going to get back into focusing on native landscape design! If you would like to learn more about design services, click here.

🛍️ I will be at some local pop-ups in the near future! I will share more info on Instagram about when/where you can stop by.

The only thing that’s different now is that I won’t be part of Nature’s Parlor anymore.

What is happening with the store?

Regarding the store, Don will be announcing any changes happening with Nature’s Parlor via email/social media. For now, the store will remain open with modified hours, please check Google for any store hour updates.

I am so grateful for moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. 🥹 This past weekend, we were blessed to have four generations join us for our Blooms & Brunch workshop. These beautiful souls traveled all the way from Silver Spring just to be here with us. It was an absolute joy to spend time with them and get to know them 💕
